I have a backing track I'm working on and have imported a midi bass line that I created in Guitar Pro. When exporting the song as an Audio file the bass line is not there. Normally I will drag the tracks into my DAW and do the final editing and mixing there. In this case I just wanted to send an mp3 to a friend to give them a sense of how the arrangement was coming along using micro chords to create the required 16th note shots. I don't see any check boxes in the render to audio file dialog box that refer to anything specific to midi.
I'm not using a midi keyboard controller etc. I simply imported the bass midi file that was exported from GP. Looks like it came over on channel 5. I edited a couple of the notes at the very end and they show up in the midi editor in BB as being on channel 1. Switched them to channel 5 for the heck of it and the bass still plays fine within BiaB. I also have it set to General Midi patch 34 Finger Electric Bass. I did notice that when I first open the song in BiaB the midi bass track says Electric Bass Instrument: 0 <no patch change>. But if I start playback and stop then the 34 patch pops in. Any ideas why the midi bass is not being exported along with the other tracks? The track is not muted.
The default bass channel in BIAB is 2. Maybe that will help.
Thanks! I can't seem to find a way to change the channel of all the events globally. I can change them one event/note at a time but there has to be an easier way.
In Track Settings and Actions, you can change the output channel for the specific MIDI device:
BIAB & RB2026 Win.(Audiophile), Windows 10 Pro & Windows 11, Cakewalk Bandlab, Izotope Prod.Bundle, Roland RD-1000, Synthogy Ivory, Session Keys Grand S & Electric R, Kontakt, Focusrite 18i20, KetronSD2, NS40M, Pioneer Active Monitors.
That didn't seem to work either. I was able to get there from the Edit menu but every time I try to use the F7 hot key it crashes the program. I've been getting way more than my share of crashing between this and micro chords

When it crashes, does it create an error log message that you can email to PG Music?

We see these types of Midi problems at times. Hard to troubleshoot via back and forth messages although the guys here make a great effort. Can you upload the BIAB file so we can take a closer look at it? May allow someone to ID exactly what is going on.
Update: I wasn't able to find any other way to change the midi channel to 2 and have it stay after saving and opening up again except for manually editing all 680 events. See first pic. After doing that the bass did export with the audio. In the Track Setting and Actions dialog box I would change the channel to 2, save and closeout and when I restart BiaB and open the file it reverts back to channel 1. See pic 2.
Here is the error message I get when hitting F7 to open the Track Settings and Actions dialog. See Pic 3. Most of the time if I access it from the Edit menu it works but I did get this same message once that way as well.
In relation to the error message, does it do this with any song or does it occur only on one specific song?

Your problem may be related to the fact that you are using an imported MIDI file with microchords. Thus the bass track was not generated with the microchords and not in sync with it. I have found that the microchord feature to be a PITA at times.
Have you tried to let BiaB generate a bass line? You might be able to generate said track and in the piano roll view carefully arrange the notes to match your bass lines.
Have you tried to convert your bass line to an MP3 and incorporate it in BiaB or maybe even better RealBand or any other DAW. That is convert the BiaB sans the bass and merge that MP3 with your bass MP3 in a DAW. YMMV
I haven't lost all of my marbles but there is a small hole in the bag someplace!
64 bit Win 10 Pro, the latest BiaB/RB, Roland Octa-Capture audio interface, a ton of software/hardware

Thanks for the input, Mario. The bass line already had the appropriate shots in it prior to bringing into Biab.

After doing some testing of other styles with midi in BiaB, I believe my file is just corrupt at this point as I was not able to recreate the issues outside of that project.
UPDATE: In case there are other new users out there.
I created a new project and after getting all the chords entered I used the Melody dialog - Edit Melody Track - Import Melody from MIDI file. I had to say yes to switching to Mutlti Channel and the file imported on channel 5. In the Melody dialog I went to the Melody Sequencer Window for Mutlti-Channel Melody. There I was able to Re-channel to channel 2. Then since BiaB detected there was only one channel with MIDI information it asked and I said yes to switching back to single channel. Everything seemed to work fine with no crashing when toggling the F7 key etc.
Thanks for everyone's input. I will mark this topic as resolved.
Excellent. Thanks for letting us know you got it sorted and how. It potentially seems that the original file was the culprit causing the crash?
