There're some spikey bits in the vocal as well...could well be me.

Hey, thanks rayc for listening. I'm trying to be more aware of the freqs in the instruments for that very reason.... I know I have high freq attenuation and tend to over compensate by turning them up. I have listened to this multiple times to be sure I didn't overdue it. With that in mind.... it is a single coil strat into a mostly clean amp model and is intentionally clean and bright. Ditto on the vocals being up front and bright but hopefully not harshly so.

I'm glad you liked it

Oh yes. Those lines say it in volumes. This is blues wink

Sitting there at my desk... as I am writing this song..... and yeah, while it came out pretty fast.... there was that eternal songwriter quandry.... OK that last line seems to work ok... staring at a blank sheet no ideas seem to come.......what's next.... and I look down and see my dog Lilly, laying on her bed in the corner of the studio, and bam!!! Might as well take my old black dog out for a walk.... wait, walk doesn't rhyme..... RUN..... yeah that fits....

Thanks

Guitar right on the money too, great tone and I love the way you play the "spaces".

Really enjoyed this one, Herb!

Maybe it was Carlos or someone else... could have been Duke Ellington or Louis Armstrong who said, it's not what you play, it's what you DON'T play that makes the difference. Seeing all the online kids and others who shred and cram a ba-gillion notes into 4 beats, I think... Oh, that's cute, but can you play with soul? Can you touch my heart with a single note or do you simply dazzle me with the number of notes you can fit into a given passage? I prefer to play it slow and tastefully most of the time. Sometimes I actually succeed.

I can't describe how I do that vocal other than to say it's not forced. Kind of laid back and lazy actually. I close mic so I don't feel like I have to push it. Think a combination of the "cry" in Conway Twittys voice and Dusty/Billy from Top.

Guitar tone is courtesy of the Spark modeling amp using the Fishboy amp. It's actually designed for acoustic and clean instruments but in the Spark, you can add a multitude of pedals before and after the amp. For this tone.... the amp is set clean with the PG (Positive Grid) Sustainer and Drive booster pedals up front, both of which simply add clean gain. The PG Room Studio A verb is on the back end. As a guitar player, you should investigate this amp. Extremely versatile is putting it mildly. I run it direct from the headphone jack into the Saffire Interface.

Thanks

Herb, I love the sound of that guitar! Your setup pulls it off nicely! Also love the gritty vocal...works perfectly! You sound a lot like early Billy Gibbons on the vocal! Good tune! Thanks, Torrey

"That screen still looks the same like it did an hour ago"

Hmmm...for me it looks like it did a week ago!

Hey Herb, you been hanging out with Billy Gibbons?

Whether serious or tongue 'n cheek this is some good blues!
Singing and playing.

And as Bud is an upright bass player we laud the choice smile

Well done,

J&B

Thanks for the kind words.

Whether tongue in cheek or serious... You can't tell?

Even when I do tongue in cheek songs I'm serious about it.

Hope that clarifies it for you.

Glad you enjoyed it. I have said it before but.... Maybe I should write more of the blues.

Excellent song Herb. Loved the guitar work. Turn around was very cool. Super vocal and backtrack. Loved the resonator..

Hi Guitarhacker,

Very nice solo guitar playing. The voice with its lyrics is well done. It's the blues that I enjoy.

Like Marty said, I think most of us own a piece of that real estate. Great job of mining it for gold. Love the guitar.
