I'll Be Your Weekend (Edit 2)

UPDATE: So after a couple forum member comments I changed the version and eliminated the e-guitar and instruments and started over with a more pop sound. I also added a break between the chorus and verse 2;

This is a new version using the SURFACE Chillout Soul Style. Bass 1190, Guitar 3343 and PopRocks Real drums with me on piano

Thanks,
Bob

Lyrics:

When you feel like your life is made of bad news
I know what we'll do
We can turn off the lights and throw on some tunes
Change up the mood

Chorus
I'll be your whiskey in your favorite glass
I'll be your angel praying for you till the pain has passed
And when you're lonely, I'll be your bestfriend
I got nothing but time to spend
So let me be your weekend

Verse 2 lyrics:
All the battles you fight, in your heart and mind
Leave them behind
Put your fear to the side and your hand in mine
It's okay to cry

Chorus
I'll be your whiskey in your favorite glass
I'll be your angel praying for you till the pain has passed
And when you're lonely, I'll be your bestfriend
I got nothing but time to spend
So let me be your weekend

Bridge:
I'll be your sunshine, I'll be your sky and we can fly
I'll hold you through the stormy nights
There ain't no mountain that we can't climb, you and I
You and I

Hi Bob,

It is a very good song, but if you listen with earbuds, the music going constantly from left to right might cause an epileptic seizure if you're sensitive to it laugh
Of course this is not a problem if you listen without earbuds.
The vocals and music might need to be a bit balanced. Sometimes the vocals get drowned in the music, sometimes they are very loud and the music can hardly be heard.
The lead and backing vocal change sometimes, understanding that the backing vocal becomes the lead vocal and vice versa.
If that can be fixed this is a beautiful song.
But... maybe it's all because of the earbuds!

thanks Rob,

Being deaf in one ear often makes catching the bad mix harder so thank you.

I agree that the guitar isnt in the right place all the time and the mix is not great- really just experimenting now to get input and see what people think -- The forum is pretty great at providing good input before i do a final version.

It was me replying laugh
I know the problem slightly. My right ear is less good than my left ear.
So I always ask Rob to listen when I've finished a song.

Hi, Bob.

I like the song and vocal a lot!

It sounds like you're asking for feedback, so here are some comments to ignore. wink

The intro sounds it's for a blues song, so it feels a bit out of place - at least, coming in that early.

The arrangement feels like it's overwhelming the vocals in the mix. Then again, I usually mix my vocals much to hot, so take that with a grain of salt.

It also feels like there's a disconnect between the mix and the vocals - like the singer's singing to a different backing track. I sort of wonder what it would sound like with a more up-tempo backing, despite the lyrics.

Anyway, really nice song! laugh

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

I agree with David.

Maybe a pop backing track would fit better.

However this is an excellent start. I like the vocal and lyrics.

This is a good song but has the potential to be a fantastic song.

Thanks Mario and David -- I am starting over-- I updated the song to be a simplier one for now. Looking for Pop styles and see what i can find to fit-- feel free to suggest too.

Lyrically, this is excellent.

Musically, very good.

But I agree a different backing could really make this shine. The song is a keeper, and it doesn't need much work to get it to be a real stand-out.

Yeah, I love the lyrics, Bob. This is a god song, and those vocals are outstanding. The piano is good, but so all alone. I love that "I'll be your whiskey in your favorite glass."

Enjoy whatever happens!

Personally, I like the song a lot. really top quality stuff there. Are you a writer on this?

I agree that the backing tracks are not the best choice. They do showcase the song, but.... you need a better choice of tracks for a good demo.

I would humbly submit that a really nice contemporary interpretation in the country music genre would showcase this nicely. I could hear a number of the current crop of country female artists covering this.

I am assuming I have listened to the track that is different from what others have commented on because I like the instrumentation---it sounds poppy.

I really like the melody. Well done!

I don't have a problem with the instrumentation.
The bass could be edited to be simpler and less "busy" - particularly in the earlier section or a different bass imported.
As a piano ballad this has pretty much all the elements needed...a fabulous song, a convincing vocal performance, a piano with chords and arps that describe the melody as well as support it.
Nice.

Cheers

Upon listening to V1 and back to V2...I think substituting an acoustic solo - either steel strings or, preferably, a classical guitar/nylon string job, would have suited the vibe of V1...rather like used in Make Me smile (Come up & see me ) by Cockney Rebel or even Al Stewart.

Only listened to the latest version, sounding very nice and a lovely vocal performance.

(The ending gets chopped off which I assume was a little exporting error)

A top quality pro sounding song.

Nice song.

My observation:
Vocals is a bit lost in the first half and comes alive toward the end.
