My SG stays in tune exceptionally well,....... UNTIL..... I break a string. Then, it's a dumpster fire of trying to tune the remaining 5 strings to finish the song or bending them to hit the right notes. Has to do with the tremolo on the guitar. All my guitars since that SG have been non-tremolo models. I've never played a locking bridge tremolo guitar. No particular reason. Maybe because country, which is what I made my living with, rarely had whammy dives in it. When I was playing for a living, I changed my strings every two weeks. Ernie Ball Super Slinky and I would wipe them down at the end of the night. They would last about a month but I changed them every two weeks for tone and reliability.

I removed the whammy bar because it was essentially useless if you used it with any level of force.

However..... there is a device called the Evertune Guitar Bridge.... It's downright amazing but requires considerable wood working skills to install it. Routing the back is required. BUT... In a video I saw, once it is set up, adjusted, and the guitar is in tune, you can whammy bar it down until the strings flap and release it and it's back in perfect tune.
