THERE'S STILL ROOM LEFT FOR YOU (with Angelo Napoli on guitar)

Angelo Napoli (Angelomusic) recently contacted me after listening to
my song, reposted here, and said he liked it and would like to have
a crack at doing the guitar work. I had previously listened to some
of his playing and already knew that he is a highly skilled musician
and was glad to step back and let him give his take on this song. Our
styles of playing are very different but what he has done on this works
very well in my opinion. I would encourage anyone who listens, to stay
tuned at least through his solo in the middle (it's a beautiful thing).
Angelo never at any time made me feel like my playing was not good enough.
He had a humble and gracious attitude throughout the whole process. I
know many of you listened to this song recently and I thank you for giving
it another spin! I won't be replying to any comments here, I will let
Angelo do that this time. Thanks, T

There's Still Room Left For You
Words and music by
Torrey Bliss ©2022

You messed up the deed is done
You wanna turn the page
Yet it's been etched deep in stone
Still some just won't let it go
They condemn your soul
And say there's no hope for you

Oh come to the Savior who's waiting
With arms reaching out
Yes He will embrace you
Oh I do believe that in heaven
There's still room left for you

Your past just keeps hanging on
It won't leave you alone
Stuck under that cold dark cloud
It's time that you tried something new
Shake off those blues
Listen to me please believe

Oh come to the Savior who's waiting
With arms reaching out
Yes He will embrace you
Oh I do believe that in heaven
There's still room left for you

Did I mention how good the piano sounds, Torrey? Angelo sounds really good in there. Yes, very different from your style, but so good. That also says something about your ability to write such good songs. Yes, if Time & Space applied to Heaven, wow, would it be crowded. Such a good song so well done.

Enjoy whatever happens!

Hello all!
First and foremost I would like to express my gratitude to Torrey for his trust and for allowing me to play on his tune that I loved so much! I really enjoyed our interaction, Torrey is very friendly and professional and the whole experience was a real pleasure. I made some proposals and let him decide what he wanted to keep. My view is that this is his song and as I told him I'm only a servant to his creativity. Thank you Torrey!

Thank you very much Babu! And yes, it was not hard to play over such a beautiful piece of music. Very inspiring, and even more that I am Christian.

This is what happens when two very talented musicians get together!

Excellent piano, guitar, and mix. Loved the lyrics also.

You both should be very proud of this one

Loved it.

A different take, a different expressive style, a different perspective.
Angelo's augmentation is really cool and fits the song really well.
Then again I love your guitar work on the song Torrey.
Yep, the piano part if fabulous and the vocal performance, melody and expression are wonderful.

Cheers

Still a great song, so I'm more than happy to hear it again. smile

Angelo's guitar solo is... something else. I was expecting something a bit more subdued, and he took it beyond 11!

To me, it was a bit of a mismatch, but I've got pretty conservative musical tastes. So who cares what a fuddy-duddy thinks?

But it was a blast to listen to! You guys are both great! laugh

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

Thank you Mario, you are so kind. I totally agree with you, Torrey's tune is special (my Christian roots certainly don't help not being biased haha) and provides comfort in some current very dark times.

At first I had kept the "soft sound" for the solo that I used for the fills. Then I felt more in the mood of Marty in "Back to the future" (the concert scene where he plays guitar and goes wild, hehe) and picked the other sound to spice the tune up and create a climax at this moment of the tune. I'm sorry it didn't sound right to your ears. Thank you for your feedback, they are all appreciated!

That's exactly what came to mind. laugh

To me, it's a bit like doing a cover - you can either be true to the original, or chart your own course.

And if you're going to do your own thing, it's far better to commit fully to doing it your way, instead of doing a version that's neither one nor the other. That sort of thing makes no one happy. wink

Music is all about choice and elimination. You test things then you eliminate and chose. That's exactly what I did for the solo section about what sound to pick.
Moreover, having contributors to your piece of music is also allowing other universe to blend with yours. And for that I am grateful for Torrey for his trust and open mind.
None of Torrey or I felt like we were not respecting the original. As a matter of fact he displayed his satisfaction in his introductive post about this version (solo included) and I did the same. So we have here both participants happy about the collaboration.

You are perfectly entitled to your opinion though, that's the beauty of a forum where everyone can share his view, and I thank you for that.

Thank you PROJECT M! I loved to collaborate on Torrey's music. He has a real talent indeed and his pieces of music always give me melodic ideas (this one but also the latest one he released on the forum which I really loved too!).

We enjoyed both versions.

You and Angelo took different guitar paths but ultimately to the same place.

Very nice!
