I enjoy cowriting with lyricists who aren't really musicians...while poems do not always translate directly to songs, I tend to believe that good songs should also be good poetry...both need great execution in cadence and syllable count...this song is a cowrite and I have always liked it for the passion and attitude it expressed...I appreciate my cowriters giving me cart blanch to edit, rewrite and arrange for the music. Totally agree with what you say about "good songs should also be good poetry" --except maybe in some rock and roll. hehe This is beautiful, Dan. Vocals are so strong and passionate. Excellent and simple band, and those lyrics are wonderful.

Hi Dan,
Like RnAM and Marty I agree the importance of lyrics in relation to poems.
On the other hand I often hear people don't care about lyrics so much, as long as they can sing along or only like the rhythm.
But I like good lyrics. I only have some hesitation when religion is involved, but that is some discussion and I don't think we must walk that path here.
Your song is very nice to listen to; nice rhythm, very good vocals and harmonies and the guitar was very important. The amount of reverb is just enough, I think.
I enjoyed your performance!

Wow. This is a powerful song. My wife is going to love it too. It's like a sermon wrapped up in melody. When I first heard it I was immediately struck by the melody and chord progression. The next thought was the disciplined production. That fiddle and resonator sound so good with that guitar and voices it must have been difficult to not over do it, but you have it just great. My next comment please take with a boulder of sand because I'm very weak at recording voices. I love the harmonies and performance, but for me, the words were occasionally hard to understand, I think because of the effects on them. I then read the lyrics while listening to your production and was just absolutely floored. Great song. I think it will have a great affect on many listeners.

Hi, Dan. The understated acoustic arrangement sounds great here. Catchy melody, good chorus. Sounds like a classic.  By the way, there were a couple "e"s missing in "carte blanche". Darned French...
