Barbara's Waltz This is a country swing waltz with orchestral backup, named for a cherished member of our contradance community here in Phoenix who passed away last year. It's funny how melodies come to us. This tune had its beginnings years ago when I was warming up on my fiddle before a dance, practicing vibrato. The "A" part melody lurked in my brain for many years before another band member helped me come up with a "B" part. In my mind's eye, I always saw this as an orchestral piece. Last year, I plugged the chords into BIAB and discovered that the melody works quite well using country swing style _CWALTZP. The end result here is a mixture of country and orchestral, with many variations of the main melody. With the exception of the drum track, all tracks are midi, played using virtual instruments. Drums: BIAB NashClassicWaltzSw RealDrums Bass: Derived from BIAB RealBass 1122, converted to midi and played using AmpleGuitar Upright Bass plugin. Rhythm Guitar: Derived from BIAB RealGuitar 989, converted to midi and played using AmpleGuitar Martin plugin. Rhythm Piano: Played by me using Native Instruments Grandeur Steinway Grand plugin. A few measures were derived from BIAB RealPiano 1701, converted to midi and tweaked. Solo piano: Played by me using Native Instruments Grandeur plugin. Solo violin: Played by me using Native Instruments Stradivarius Violin plugin. Solo cello: Played by me using Native Instruments Stradivarius Cello plugin. Solo Guitar: Played by me using Native Instruments Session Guitarist Picked Acoustic plugin. Piccolo: Played by me using Spitfire Audio BBC Symphony plugin. Orchestral string section: Played by me using Spitfire Audio BBC Symphony plugin. Mixed and mastered using Cakewalk by Bandlab.

Really enjoyable production, one looks forward to the next instrument taking its turn, but it's great when the violin returns. Thanks! Originally the B part was to be played by the violin for one of the repeats, but I couldn't get a good sound for that part. Even with a decent virtual plugin for the violin, it's still difficult to get a good sounding violin melody. At least the intonation is always good that way! I'd have to use heavy Melodyne correction if I was playing, and I've not been able to achieve a good sound when recording my own violin. I wish I knew the secrets (besides having a better violin.)
