Page two was a step too far away so I took the liberty of throwing up a new thread for the master of the as yet untitled song. Thanks for all the excellent suggestions and commentary. Thanks to Floyd Jane for sharpening the tynes.
The song was mastered, as is usual for me, by Fran Ashcroft of HappyBeat studios.
Sounds great, Ray. This one gets played LOUD. I'm especially digging that crunchy guitar sound, it's like a bowl of sugary breakfast cereal for my ears.
Sounds as good as most all the "Punk Rock" I've listened to, which is very little... I do like the energy, and most of the mix, but I'm still not catching all of the lyric... Vox sounds in tune, but for me, could be more out-front... but then, I'm just not a fan of the genre, so... what do I know..?
I thought this was great... I don't think it's ugly enough to be called punk. A good mix. Vocals, instruments, levels all sound good to me. The master sounds smooth and polished... Another reason I can't call it punk.

Greg, Thanks and, regarding genre, I agree 100%. Having enjoyed being a late teen when UK punk broke through and broke down I have a solid enough memory and record collection of what it was and wasn't. This thing is closer to pop rock I think though it has the saving grace of an inept lead guitar part!

grin;-) the lead guitar is my favorite part... the bass and guitars are excellent. After another listen, I find the song may be growing on me... not unlike some other things.
Very well done, Ray. Vocal is perfect out front. Excellent bass!! The whole band screams beautifully. Mix is so well-polished. Sounds like that feedback sustain is still going...
Man, I had my volume level set for a mix I'm working and had the 'phones on, just about blew the top of my head off when this started to play This sounds great to me, Ray, love the groove. Bass and guitars right on the money, and I think your vocals works well here too.
Sorry about that, I always have masters down for CD & sometimes I forget to adjust.

One guitar left & one right with the lead feeding back a bit behind everything. Mind you the rhythm guitar parts were tracked with a 57 & an e609 which were blended so it gives a bigger sound with less need for EQ. I was dubious about the Knockoffner but it seems to have done the job.

Fun and catchy. It took me back. Not harsh enough for punk, but echoes of it. New Wave perhaps, but British. Buzzcocks on a mellow day? Post punk? Stranglers? Anyway, got my vote.

Ray, this is good. Now that I heard the tune for at least 1/2 a dozen times, I am convinced, it is good. Good not in the sense that it is "good for your level" but actually a good contribution to the genre. Don't listen to "too soft for punk" comments. Those are simply not true Mastering added a nice coat of luster and clarity. Definitely one of your top tunes. Thank you for sharing.
P.S. Extra... Katya loved it. She doubles my thoughts. Also, she said lyrics are (sad, but) great and excellent harmonies.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.
