With all the challenges going on and well.... some of those are kinda difficult to really do justice.... I decided to give myself a Rock and Roll challenge.

This is a rough copy.... I didn't fix a few of the things that maybe I should have but.... I've been on this all day.... from the basic idea and rough draft to well.... kinda almost ready.

Oh.... did I forget to mention that I have been watching the AC/DC concert from Argentina..... wow.... some seriously good rock and roll from those boys.

So... maybe, I'm not saying it did or didn't influence this tune.... or the recording.... or the instrumentation.....

The Band.... I only used bass and drums from BB...adding only 2 guitar tracks.

Metal 8ths on the drums and Metal 388 on the bass. Everything else is me. Essentially, only 2 more tracks... one rhythm guitar and one lead in a few places. The amp is Spark.... and of course Marshall models.

It's only Rock & Roll (new version)

Mixed mostly on cans and well..... enjoy.

Arena rock and roll at it's finest.

Feel free to comment and point out what you like and what you don't.

EDIT: Forgot the words....

Heard the story a long time ago
Bout a boy back in the woods you know
Bought a guitar and he followed a dream
Now he makes all the young girls scream

Rock and roll such a simple thing
makes you wanna get up and scream
Gets you out on the dancehall floor
always leaves you wanting more

It's only rock and roll, (4x)

Don't care what anybody say
I'm gonna rock and roll it anyway
Turn it up as loud as it goes
Come on everybody get to the show

I got a guitar I crank it up loud
the feeling's right when you're feeling the crowd
you get high ya move all night long,
I'm gonna rock and roll ya with this song

It's only rock and roll, (8x)

Herb,

Neat power rocker. Solid drive and vocal performance. Good mix & listens well.
Thank you for sharing.

Misha

P.S. Funny, earlier this week I was driving 11 y.o. kids and a music request was AC/DC. I was surprised that young kids dig it these days.

Rock n roll ??. ,its too heavy on the instrument side, more like heavy metal!!.but too weak on the vocal side !.

So a good attempt , but not your usual stuff , that you do well !!.

Always enjoy your stuff !!,

A thought at first this was a david snyder number , you guys do sound the same tho !!.

Thanks for jumping in on the early band wagon.

I just put 2.0 up. A few changes.... brought the vox up. Fixed a few out of tune things. EQ cut to clean up the guitars and also volume envelopes on them were adjusted.

Let me know your thoughts.

Tracks are in the op. Only drums and bass. Both metal.

2 guitars... A rhythm throughout and lead where you hear it. That's it. 4 tracks just like a 4piece band.

4 vox tracks ... One main with 3 more unison in the chorus.

Just a note..... I'm going to remix it a third time. It sounds too bright to me. I'll send you the mp3 of that Saturday evening.

Wow, I don't believe we ever heard you coming up with such a metal sound ;-).

You definitely are a guitar hacker. Great solo work (and very nice git feedback).

Albeit the mix itself, particularly the cymbals might have slightly too much high EQ...
Maybe something to consider next time...

You put Ac/Dc,Bob Seager and the Scorps in a box and shook it and this came out. Having played my share of bar band gigs this really takes me back, back to about quarter to 2, dance floor packed and nobody wanting to leave, just one more guitar solo and a 5 min. ending and goodnight!!!! You nailed it. Thanks.

I'm a big fan of the KISS method for rock and blues tunes also, bass, drums, couple of guitars maybe a piano/organ, done!

Nicely done, Herb, perfect attitude and tone on the guitars, great rock vocal.

LOUD out of the box...I had to find and adjust the level.
Angus & Malcolm did just the one guitar track each - with some fills from Angus O.D.'d if needed.
Malcolm used quite a clean sound but it would crunch when he hit it hard in the right spots.
Using BIAB for the rhythm section makes sense too as Rudd & whoever was on bass usually meshed liked a machine providing an uninterrupted, solid foundation.

You seem to have achieved the necessary grunt and heft from the Spark too.
Yes, there're a few spots where the vocal could be tweaked but I'm not convinced it's needed.
Lyrically - generally I personally don't care for songs about r'n'r but I was listening to the sound, not meaning, of the words with this so you snuck by me.
Cool playing.

Cheers

Herb,

Excellent guitar work.

Good screamy vocal (I thought it was just a tad to "bright and clear" - I'd try some heavy saturation to give it even more growl).

On my speakers, the drums are overpowered by the cymbals.
By the end of the song they (cymbals) are really pulling my ear.
The snare and kick seem to take a backseat to the cymbals.
It would be nice if it was the other way around (a powerful kick/snare sound).

This does Rock.

Folks, I really appreciate your feedback and with the advice given..... I went back for a more detailed look at the song.

Hopefully, this (3rd) mix is a better representation of what I was going for.

Here's what I did.

Spiced up the intro and the outtro hits on the drums. Regarding the drums, I rolled off the high end to tame those cymbals. Hopefully, mission accomplished on this one.

I worked on the vocal a guitar EQ as well, adjusted a few levels, cleaned up a few off beat things..... I love volume envelopes.

And a few other minor tweeks here and there..... anyway.... for your listening pleasure.....

https://app.box.com/s/52sxlbgtbkho5iqt753b3d1865w8q09e

maybe the third time is the charm.

Note: I was gonna pull this down last night but since I didn't have the time to work on this until later this evening.... Saturday..... I left it in place but it's now the 3rd and hopefully final version.

Note2: We now have a Doctor in the house. My daughter finished her doctorate and graduated today.

Enjoy the song

Hello Herb
Congratulations !!!
This is really cool hard rock
That I may still experience that here in the forum ;-)
Reminds me of my band rehearsals a long time ago....
Your voice is really really good.
Your song structure fits. Also the end is cool.
Ok. Soundtechnically there is still room for improvement.
Especially the drums are very tame.
Your guitar work is also typical for such a song.
Let's see who will join this challenge.
You have set the bar very high, especially with your vocals.
More of it Herb
Thanks a lot
Andi ;-)

You charmed it, Herb. It's only rock 'n' roll, but I like it! Your vocal is perfect, and is driven by that fine guitar.

Enjoy whatever happens!
