Does anybody record the actual Audio from Kontakt into RB?

I can get it work as a VSTi, and record the MIDI then render to an Audio Track, but I'd like to just record the Audio from Kontakt in RB.

Yes I've tried Input Monitor, but maybe I am doing it wrong.

Well I do "record the actual Audio from Kontakt into" Reaper. I can route the output of the track that Kontrakt is on, to the input of a separate track and hit record when it plays. Certainly RB has that type of routing cabability, right?

In fact it is actally much simpler in Reaper which has a "render\freeze" feature which will save the midi, mute it and put the redendered audio right on the same track. Is that what you are trying to do?

No, I can play it and record the MIDI just fine, and then have RB Render it to an Audio track .. I am trying to avoid that middle step and just record raw audio from Kontakt to RB at the git-go .. I'm sure there is a way but it has eluded me so far
dang sometimers

I don't think that is the way it works. Kontakt sends back to the DAW and you capture audio by routing to another track. It can all be done in one set where it records both the midi and the audio, but then two tracks are used. But of course there may be alternate workflows possible. Good luck.

I get that.
I should be able to send the MIDI from the keyboard to Kontakt (so far so good), and have the RB record the Kontakt Audio (this is where I am failing).
I can record the MIDI just fine and have RB 'Autogenerate' that MIDI to an Audio track.
I may have to switch to Reaper, as RB seems to be the bottleneck, though I have done this in RB with other VTSis

Just wondering if there was some kind of 'trick' in RB for Kontakt that I haven't figgered out yet

I do the whole 'have RB record Audio too when track is MIDI', and it acts like it recorded an audio track, but that track ends up empty.

Like I said, maybe I'll just move on. Usually I'm pretty good about figuring out routing.

Ya, I am not the best candidate to have answered this since each time I have tried to use RB I quickly hit a road stop and run back to Reaper. But some times I am all you got... grin till something better comes along.

And I appreciate it.

Next time I go thru there we should meet somewhere.
My brother in law lived in Wauconda for a while by one of the lakes, then moved up to Grays lake, but now he is in WI, so I still have to go through there every couple years.
Come to think of it, little by little he keeps moving farther & farther away .. maybe he's trying to tell me something smile

All of the instructions in the manual for Real Band speak of rendering to audio or auto-convert midi to audio track, which renders the output of the midi track and vst to the first available audio track. I am not sure real band has the routing capability as other mainstream DAWS that allow you to route your output to an audio track in "real time". I could be very wrong of course. There are some experts in these forums that probably do it all the time!

Depending on your setup you may be able to create an input to an audio track from your output device and do so without creating a feedback loop. It all depends on what you use as audio driver and device etc. Just a suggestion.

I have a Focusrite 18i20, and haven't been successful so far trying routing inside that.
Granted attempts are being done at night with limited time (due to work), so I wouldn't doubt the routing can be done, I was just seeing if anyone else had some tips.

As for 'inside RB', *usually* I can use the Input Monitor feature and (for instance) play guitar thru a VST and record it live, but that is pretty much all Audio.
It seems to be the MIDI side that is giving me issues.

I am using the keyboard USB direct to computer as the trigger/driver for MIDI.
Maybe I should try routing MIDI through the 18i20 and see if it behaves any differently.
.. or maybe this is why Matt switched to Presonus; because the difficulty of doing such things with an 18i20 is complicated, if possible

Or maybe I need to use Kontakt as a standalone, and route stuff inside of there. I haven't got that far yet as I am still getting used to Kontakt, which in itself can be a bit complicated

This is how I route MIDI with my 18i20 and Korg but I haven't used RB in the way you're trying.

I have done that before as well. Run Kontakt standalone and use it as an input. I have not done it in RB though. Just in my other DAWs (Cakewalk, well Sonar Platinum now Cakewalk and also Cubase).

Any tips on 'using it as an Input'?

Where did it show up in the DAW?
Or did you use some in between tool to assist with routing?
That just occurred to me; maybe I need something in between, ala Pipeline's tips about Element, MiniHost etc
Load that, then load Kontakt in that .. hmm

Lotta work to get a plugin to work as expected.
Probably worth the effort to try though.

Thanks guys, lots of ideas now.
Need more time to test.
The solution may be in here somewhere.

You can use ReaStream VST that comes with ReaPlugs with Send local Broadcast* and load it after Kontakt then put the receive ReaStream VST where you want to record.

You can't just use this ?:

Thanks Pipeline.
Yes I can AutoConvert, I already do that.
I'd like to record the audio from Kontakt while plying it via a controller though.
That was my challenge.

Some of the controls in Kontakt do not record as MIDI, ie tinkering with cutoff or resonance while playing it.

There would be workarounds with routing but I've spent too much time over the years with all these issues and stress so I just use Reaper and all things just work. Now with Biab Track Injector for REAPER it's revolutionary and so easy what can be done, after years of stressing out with workarounds it just makes life so much easier. Reaper has been around since 2006, this could have all been done by PG years ago. I wasted so many years here when there was such an easy solution to it all with direct playing of the RealTrack source files on new or old hardware. The best thing about PG is it's content and this gets the content directly into a professional DAW with total control of what you need and no consolidated destructively edited wav files.

OK, so I routed Kontakt to Outputs 5/6 on Focusrite, then ran two patch cables from Focusrite Out 5/6 to Focusrite In 3/4
Now if I select inputs 3/4 in RB I can hear/record Kontakt in real time, which is what I was after, so *solved*.
Kontakt, KompleteKontrol, Reaktor 6, etc all seem OK like this ... having to use a physical cable to route stuff thru the 18i20 did seem a little 'klunky', but it works
Just reporting back in case it helps someone else

/I really thought I would be able to do this inside RB, but didn't find a way, so I found a workaround

Turns out there was a folder that contains VST versions of everything NI that I own & RB can use them .. I was just rushing and didn't look everywhere.

They were all in a folder located here -
C:\Program Files\Native Instruments\VSTPlugins 64 bit

hoodathunk that folder was the key ingredient <embarrassed>
Now all my NI stuff loads in RB as expected.

Hope that helps someone besides me smile
