Whenever I generate .wav files to export into my DAW, I want to be able identify what exact instrument I have used (for future reference). So, I manually put in the identifying number of each instrument in its file name. I would like to have the option to do this automatically, since it is a time consuming task.

It seems like this would be easy to do, since the instrument name (bass, guitar, drums, etc.) is already added to each file name when generated.

Thanks,
James

Hello JamesRNewell,

The RealTrack name and number is included when exporting and should automatically be the name of the track when imported (see image below). What DAW are you using?

I'm using Reaper, but when I generate files in the main BIAB program it does not generate the RealTrax number in the file name. it names the instrument, but it does not provide the number. Is there an option box i need to check?

Thanks,
James

When dragging directly from the Band-in-a-Box program, the name is slightly longer and includes the song title, but the RealTracks name and number are still included. If you were to drag and drop directly to your desktop, what is the name of the file?

I'm not sure how to add the images...I've loaded them to the 'file manager'.

I think the issue might be what steps are used to export a track.

I found three different ways to export a track in 2022 Band-in-a-Box build 922. Each method labels the exported track differently.

Example 1 was exported by placing the cursor on the track, right clicking to open the track sub menu and then navigating to Track Actions > Save track as WAV file.

Example 2 was exported by dragging the radio button to the WAV part of the Drag & Drop module.

Example 3 was exported using the top menu bar: File > Save Special ... > Save Song As .wav ... This method allows the user to provide a custom name to the file.

I suspect JamesNewell is using example 1 while Jerry is using example 2.

Thank you.

Actually, I’ve been using the ‘Export song as audio file’ option under the .WAV option, which is under the File menu that appears over mixer on the right of my screen (at least, that’s how it appears in my set-up).

Your post is helpful, though, because I didn’t realize that those other methods provide the RealTracks numbers. I’ve avoided those methods because the method I use is the only one that explicitly states that it is generating the highest quality file (the option check box says: “Render using highest quality tempo stretching.”)

So, my question is: Do any of these other methods guarantee the “highest quality tempo stretching”?

Thanks,
James

JamesRNewell, (Sorry I left out the R in my first post)

I believe the difference between your render method and my methods is you are using the modern interface while I use the classic. You can swap between the interfaces by using Ctrl+T.

Your interface offers two choices, "Export Song As Audio File" and "Quick Export Song ...". As you mentioned the first choice opens the Render To Audio File page shown below. I believe that is the menu you use to render WAV files, is that correct? The Render To Audio File menu is not available under the File menu located at the top left of both interfaces.

If you are using Reaper you can use the Biab source files direct using Reaper's high quality stretching and fitting to any decimal tempo map with Biab Track Injector for REAPER as there is no rendering to wav first, the source files are instantly injected into Reaper.
Any item you select will give the name and number of the RealTrack or Drum showing any instrument changes on the track.

Yes, that's how I do it. I just want to have the highest quality files in my DAW.

I'm not sure I understand it, but I'm intrigued by Pipeline's suggestion of using the BIAB track injector for Reaper. That sounds ideal for me if I can make it work.

Thanks! This sounds great. I'm not sure I understand it exactly (I'm not that strong in the tech area) but going to check it out and see if I can get it to work for me.

Thanks!

James.

Heres some tricks/ideas to try..

I keep a 3 ring binder with all bb rt id’s plus comments on my likes.
Each page is an instrument type. Eg trumpet , violin, acoustic gtr etc etc.
When ive done my chord arrange i go thru every single bb instrument and save lots of bb pages with my likes…going thru thousands of styles….and for each like……
save the chord arrange as follows RT ID + comment.THUS if i like rt 2064 i save the bb file as eg..2064NICEACOUSTICGTR.
Sometimes after going thru a slew of styles i might end up with 100 bb files .then i cull down to top 40. Then…
I export from bb wav files for each of the top 40 rt’s.., to test with my vocs in the daw…ie in my case reaps or rb. Eg if i like 999 bass then wav will be called…. 999FINALBASS..
Also in the trak name i will name it 999BASS.

The 3 ring binder also includes comments on my fav midi supertraks and rd’s.

HTH.
om
ps pipe that injector looks interesting.

my songs....mixed for good earbuds...(fyi..my vocs on all songs..)
https://soundcloud.com/alfsongs
(90 songs created useing bb/rb)
(lots of tips of mine in pg tips forum.)

JamesRNewell,

If you believe the issue has been solved, it helps to close out a thread by going to your first post and clicking the Resolved button.

That helps folks when they search the forum for answers.

Jim, thanks.

I'm still trying to find out if the two examples you mentioned (which I haven’t been using – I use example 3) will generate a file with the “highest quality tempo stretching”?

I’m looking for the “highest quality tempo stretching” (or, simply, the highest quality audio file) with the instrument number included in the file name. The only method I’ve seen that explicitly guarantees the “highest quality tempo stretching” is example 3, which I’ve been using, but that method does not provide the instrument number in the file name.

Thanks,
James

Example 1 was exported by placing the cursor on the track, right clicking to open the track sub menu and then navigating to Track Actions > Save track as WAV file.

Example 2 was exported by dragging the radio button to the WAV part of the Drag & Drop module.

Example 3 was exported using the top menu bar: File > Save Special ... > Save Song As .wav ... This method allows the user to provide a custom name to the file.

JamesRNewell,

The Render To Audio File screen is the ONLY selection I've found that offers the checkbox to select the highest quality tempo stretching so if you want 100% assurance the highest quality stretching is used you'll have to stick to that. However, the program is likely using that selection automatically.

RealTrack Preference Settings, Ctrl+E > RealTracks > RealTracks Settings, has a tempo stretching setting selection of low, medium and high. There is also a note to "reduce on slow machines". If this is set to high then the highest quality stretching should be used anyhow.

My guess is the Render To Audio checkbox is available for those computers where the RealTracks tempo setting has been set to low or medium.
