I was told recently that my songs tend to be 'down' in mood so here's an 'up' one, hot off the press!
"Romance Is Still Alive".
I hope you like it.

Nicely done John!
Nothing down about this.

Surprised at the "quick start" (short intro) and I'm still wondering what was happening in the end.... As time goes by?

Good work buddy,

Dave.

John, this is really good. I love the opening and the arrangement is fabulous. The ending with the nostalgic piano was a bit soft so for a moment I wasn't sure what was happening. The lyrics might use a teeny bit of polish here and there but I'm totally impressed. Well done. I like everything about this a lot.

John,

Very good arrangement, for the rest (which I liked) I could have very well been listening with Josies' ears as I am of the same opinion as hers.

Nice Work,

Hi John,

I love the feel/groove that you've got happening here. The arrangement is top class and the singing is superb. In relation to your lyrics, you have a really excellent sense of prosody and a terrific ability to marry lyric to melody. Some of your word-images are excellent. What surprised me most was that when I looked at how long your song was, I had no idea that I had been listening to a song for 5 mins. You held my attention all the way. That's an accomplishment and a half.

All the best,
Noel

This song is fantastic John !!

Great mix, vocal and backing. I love the guitar parts you put here and there in this. The whole thing is fabulously done. I really enjoyed this one, WTG !!!

This is hugely impressive, John.

I particularly like the vocal delivery, the well-constructed musical backdrop and the expert mix.

The lyrical idea had me thinking of that old Frankie Laine/Bachelors tune, but I bet even that song got the idea from somewhere else!

As a composition, if anything I would say there are perhaps too many different sections for one song. You could have got 2 (albeit shorter) perfectly good pieces out of all the ideas in this one.

If I had to choose, I would say that it is the “Don’t tell me…” mid-rock section that sounds the most like it belongs in a different composition.

Also, the ending is a little surprising!

Thanks for sharing this one.

Really outstanding, John, a 5 star gold plated keeper. Your class shines through. I've heard a zillion far, far worse tunes on the radio. I'm sure you could sell this. And your voice reminds me a little of Clapton's...

Many thanks, guys, I really appreciate your comments, as I was quite pleased with how this one turned out.
The snippet of ''As Time Goes By" in the outro was a hark-back to the 'Bogey and Bacall' phrase in verse one.
Yes, I used poet's licence - Bogart's love in Casablanca (from which the tune comes) was of course Ingrid Bergman whereas his real life love was Lauren Bacall.

Hi John,
Great song and really good vocal. The overall composition I thought was well thought out and the mix well balanced. This is a very professional arrangement.

I liked the beginning of the ending.

Well done

Hi Skyline,

I have been without a computer until now so could not pass any comments.

I really like the unpredictable song structure (it lends interest for the listener)

Well done.

Best regards
Michee

Hi John,......Just got to this one..& I'm glad I didn't miss it! Excellent........lyrics are good pop lyrics IMHO.....arrangement & mix up to your usual top class standard. Your vocals are really good John....and here.....in the atmosphere of this song, I would prefer your vocal with a bit more reverb.....just to bring out the romantic character a touch more. I know you are a believer of 'less is more' as regards reverb! ......but maybe try a bit of a change here?!! I like the whole concept....the middle adds interest. I've listened on cans & speakers....I'm still very impressed as it is. BUT......I have a lingering, longing to hear a "Sixties Pop Vocal" sound on this one! Nice work John. Definitely a 'keeper'!
Regards, Joe G
