Thanks, Noel. I appreciate the feedback. "Avant garde" seems appropriate given my approach, not to mention the outcome. I used to compose in a more conventional way, but was disappointed when I tried to achieve my vision in the studio (given my limited skills). I then discovered I got better results by composing, arranging, and recording on the fly. Kind of fits my out-of-mainstream music tastes anyway.
