If my music theory memory serves me correctly, the equal temperament music scale doubles the frequency for each octave, and there a 12 notes in each octave, so therefore the individual increment is calculated as the twelfth root of 2.

But I think the difference here is interpretation of percent (%) vs 'cents'. Raising a whole tone (2 semitones) from a starting point is labelled as a 200 cent increase (not 200 %).

Raising a whole tone by an octave is considered a 1,200 cent increase from the original note.
