I have entered all the chords for California Dreamin into a BIAB song. Now I want to add part of a midi file to the beginning of the song that will play the opening guitar lick. And later in the song I want to insert the flute part.
I guess my question is can I bring the midi file into the BIAB song and then use the settings in the song to mute it except for the parts where I want the midi file to play?

I guess my question is can I bring the midi file into the BIAB song and then use the settings in the song to mute it except for the parts where I want the midi file to play? Yes and No. Some may depend on what version of BiaB you are using. Later versions allow you to successfully insert bars at the start of a song. In earlier versions somethings this had issues, especially with bars that contained different time signatures. For the yes part, just press function key <F5> at the desired bar to mute / un-mute any track. In later versions, you can also use the Audio Edit Window to mute / un-mute the music at any track.

Adding to AudioTrack's message doing things like this are better suited for a DAW. If you have the Window's version of BiaB you have a DAW in RealBand. Alternatively you can use any DAW of your choice.

I have BIAB 2022. Just upgraded from 2014. What is the process for importing the midi file that has the guitar part I want into my existing BIAB song?

You can drag/drop the MIDI file into your Band-in-a-Box project. Then a window will appear where you can choose which track it imports to. After both instruments are imported to separate tracks, you can use the PianoRoll window to edit their MIDI notes.
