Mike, really that is what you took from this conversation? I would not give up, just look at what is needed and head that direction. The fact is that the built in sound cards in a laptop were never meant for recording, they will do a decent job for playback, but recording is a different beast. It is like racing the Indy 500 in a Nissan Z 350, a fast little car but no match for a professional race car.

What you need to take from this is that you need a decent interface to from the software and laptop. Then you will have a nice mobile setup.
