So once I've migrated my BIAB tracks to my DAW (in my case, Mixcraft 9 for Windows), sometimes I like to add harmony parts in various places. Sometimes I would like to include a harmony part that is above my vocal ceiling (let's say a 5th above the melody note). Is there some DAW magic I can use to move my melody note up a fifth and the results still sound decent for a background harmony?

There are many harmony generator fx on the market.
The latest is from Waves Audio and is on "new release" sale for $39. It will generate up to 8 harmonies.
I do not use it but Waves is a great reliable company.

I have found that Melodyne yields very realistic harmonies. Vocals are monophonic so the Melodyne Essentials would do the job perfectly, i.e. about $99 USD. Waves is a very reputable company and in fact I own many Waves' products. The harmony examples do sound very good however based on only that I would pick Melodyne. YMMV Here is a list of some free ones so maybe one of these would work for you: https://midination.com/vst/free-vst-plugins/free-harmonizer-vst/I have no experience with any of these. Google/Bing harmony vst and I'm sure that you will find something that will work for you and is in your budget. I hope this helps and good luck.

By now most DAWs have a native harmonizing/pitch shifting plugin but what you probably want is "smart" one that can constrain your shifted note(s) to a chosen scale or, even better, use the info from the chords in an instrumental track to constrain the notes as you go along. Even better: both of the previous options. Waves, Melda, Eventide and iZotope, among others, and Melodyne, as Mario mentioned, all have offerings along these lines (sometimes more than one). You're going to have to check out what features intrigue you and satisfy your needs and workflow. Indeed, there is magic available for you. Hopefully, some one else will chime in with their familiarity and experiences with this type of plugin.

I believe there's a harmonizer in BB... but honestly, I have never used it. So I can't comment on it with intelligence.
I use Melodyne in my DAW. It can move notes anywhere on the pitch line you want them. However, the further you go from the fundamental pitch, the more you need to use the formant tool. That's what is supposed to keep the original timbre of the note so it doesn't sound like Alvin and the chipmonks singing. Your success in using that will vary. Personally, I've not been able to get a realistic sounding vocal from large pitch changes. HOWEVER.... if you use reverb and add several other pitch changed vocal harmonies and keep them low in the mix, you can pull it off reasonably well.
My preferred method of harmony vocals is old school.
The method I use quite a bit is to sit down at the keyboard and play a harmony part that works and then record it with the piano. The piano lets me work out the exact harmony rather than guessing and trying to wing it on the fly. I then take the time to learn it vocally and then record it. Even if I am off pitch a bit or miss a high note..... that is where Melodyne excels. Melodyne can move a note that half or full step easily and totally transparently. Since continuity is not as critical with the BGV as it is with the lead..... one can easily take it phrase by phrase and punch the parts in easily. I find this to be a rather quick way to get some decent harmony vox in a project. Oh yeah.... I have winged it more than a few times and that's even faster if you can do it that way.

I think Mario’s method is a good way to go after using a number of commercial harmonizers with varying results. One old school trick that I still use is to record a vocal that I can’t reach, either up or down by varying the speed on my old Tascam recorders. You have to be careful to not go too far with it or your end up with the chipmunk sound or worse. I almost always record my main vocal one step down so it will play back one step higher. It keeps me from straining to reach notes at the very top of my range.

Jazz, Funk & World (Sets 468-475):
Our new jazz, funk & blues RealTracks include a groovin’ collection of RealTracks and RealDrums!
