I'm just shooting in the dark here.
After an exhausting and fruitless internet search,
I still cannot find any information on the song below.
I'm looking for:
- Who wrote the song (or who wrote the music and who wrote the lyrics)
- who was it sung by
- an approximate year of publication

Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks!
LLOYD S

HAPPY GO LUCKY - Key of D & E

I’m D happy go lucky lookin’ for a baby
Who’ll be A7 happy go lucky and go out with D me
D We’ll be so happy and I’ll be so lucky
If A7 she answers yes when I ask her to D be

Ch: E Mine all mine, D mine all the time
E Things will be fine
We’ll A7 take a little, give a little

Love a little, live a little
D Happy go lucky lookin’ for a baby
Who’ll be A7 happy go lucky and go out with D me

I D ain’t got no worries, I’m lookin’ for a baby
Who’s as A7 free as a bird and can do as we D please
I D ain’t got no money but we’ll live on lovin’
We’ll be A7 happy go lucky and free as a D breeze

Ch: E Mine all mine, D mine all the time
E Things will be fine
We’ll A7 take a little, give a little

Love a little, live a little
D Happy go lucky lookin’ for a baby
Who’ll be A7 happy go lucky and go out with D me

You picked a good one, Lloyd. I came up with a bunch of results for other songs with similar lyrics that were not the right one. No luck with Google.

I struck out also.

If I may ask where do you get the lyrics and chords?

Mario:

I got the words and chords from my uncle, who sings and plays guitar and wrote it out from memory.
He's 97 years young, and was surprised that he (and I) couldn't find it on the internet.
He's been performing it (and still does) but likes to announce who wrote and performed it, and what year.
His audience is his fellow members of the seniors center where he lives.

Thanks everyone for your efforts.
The only resource I haven't been able to use Mudcat.org.
I keep getting this error:

"The web site you are accessing has experienced an unexpected error.
Please contact the website administrator."

If anyone else can access that, it's been useful for other "vintage" songs I've tried.
Thanks!

I thought perhaps it goes by a different name instead of happy go lucky. I looked through the lyrics trying to decide whatvwould it be named in stead. Tried many of those but to no avail. Found a pretty good song search site that gave me almost 300 songs with happy go lucky in their lyrics still no luck. Maybe whoever taught him this song wrote it but it was never a published song?

My wife asked if I had seen the dog bowl. I told her I didn't even know he could.

etcjoe:

I questioned him on perhaps he may have just heard someone sing it,
and learned from someone he knew. (Even asked if maybe he had written it himself!).
He's certain it was a commercial recording from his early years, and it's not like he's "losing it".
Even at 97 he still has a repertoire of literally dozens of songs he can do without words or chords,
and many hundreds more that he can do with a song sheet in front of him.

He continues to amaze me.
Hope I'm that lucid at 77 never mind 97!

Thanks for taking the time to search!
