Agree with Alan.

Interesting concept for funk but you pulled it off!

Great!

Thanks David, it's self-evident you too are well experienced in music.

For me there’s no better place in the band than to have one leg in the harmony world and the other in the percussive. Thank you Paul Tutmarc and Leo Fender.

I think your song matches your description to a tee.
Super work on the bass.
I also think the bass volume is just fine - great mix
That accordion definitely adds to the French feel.
IMHO this is your best to date

Loved it

Back in my day the only time we started panic buying was when the bartender shouted "last call"!

Hi Bass Thumper,

Well constructed composition. You have managed to integrate the accordion perfectly into a more modern style. It is rich in instrumentation. Well done

Kindly regard

Derochette, many thanks for your kind and encouraging analysis.
I'm amazed that BiaB allows an untrained newbie like me to communicate coherently to others in this way.

Interesting piece. Love when the bass comes in. I like that you blended in the "French" accordion into the funk groove. That was clever.

Many thanks Storm. A few months ago, all I knew was to thump-in on the down beat at the beginning of the intro or verse 1. But then I heard a few songs where the bassist comes in at the end of the intro. But that requires that some kind of melodic structure to be worked out so that at the beginning of the next phrase you're ready to seemlessly transition from into to verse 1. You don't want to come in too early, nor too late.

Thanks for noticing this. I'm still improving on this skill.

Bass Thumper,

I like the feel of this tune...kind of a cool funky jazz! Great job on the parts you played, sounds really good! There are some instruments in the combo I don't usually hear together in this style, like the accordion and funky bass etc. but it all works together just fine. There are several great suggestions listed in the comments that sound like good ideas! Great job on the tune!

Thanks, Torrey

Janice would definitely be trying to pull me over to that bandstand for a dance or two. smile

We thoroughly enjoyed the accordion and could feel the French flavor of it. We could envision one of those old black and white movies set in Paris with the most classy Audrey Hepburn in the scene.

The bass solo was way cool!

Enjoyed it!

You kept my interest throughout this piece and that ain't easy to do. Big points for creativity. I liked the bass and if it were louder I wouldn't have been happy, I'd be reaching for the tone control. I always like it when people try to do something different. Good job overall.

Many thanks Monger.
Comments like these build my confidence in knowing that I'm learning my baby steps to communicate musically. I'm still facinated at how one "brain" is able to communicate with another "brain" by following some basic rules of music.

I always struggle as to how hot I should mix the bass. On the one hand I want it hot enough so others can crtique my playing but not too hot as to degrade the mix.

I find the accordion to be a quite unique instrument that for me, has a distictive "Romantic French Cafe" feeling even though it is believed to have originated in Germany and is used worldwide. I'm glad others like this instrument too.

This is an excellent tune. Intro was excellent. Had me anticipating when the rest of the band to kick in. Was very cool how you did that. Really well done.
