Nothing and that is what they will do. However things have really changed in the music industry. Musicians do not need the corporate music industry liked that did just a few years ago. With the proliferation home recording studios a musician can record, mix, and master their own CDs Many are as good as what any pro studio can produce, at least to the casual listener. The corporate music industry lost one of their main cash cows, i.e. the young musician with stars in their eyes. Now a great band/musician can get noticed by the corporate music industry via his music on the Internet. I have read that a number of large pro studios have shut down due to this loss of income.

Plus I think with the Internet musicians have become a lot smarter when dealing with a pro studio. At least the information is available whereas back in my day that was not the case. YMMV
