This song brought me back to an indy movie I really like called Johns, featuring David Arquette. Angel's Falling would've made a great part of the soundtrack to that film. I had no problems with the mix. Good job all around, always a pleasure to hear your magnificent voice.

I've not come across many folk brave enough to tackle this topic, maybe Dee Dee Ramone's 53rd & 3rd and a couple of others.
You navigate the topic sensitively and with a observers dispassionate journalism.
Musically I'm not fussed on the drums...to my ears they don't work but I'm alone on that one I'm sure.
fabulous vocal mate.

Hi Deej ...

Wow, this is powerful! I didn't hear any of the earlier iterations, but this cut sounds fantastic.

In my book, this is musical artistry paints a sad and heart-rendering image. You always amaze me with your music. Now, I'm further amazed.

Alan

Hello David
Excellent song
Sounds very good and is sung great
I had to get used to the drums first
But I think it fits quite well
Great work
Many greetings
Andi ;-)

The chorus is killer.

You've done an excellent job building to the chorus from the verse.

Superb passionate vocal.

Instrumentation works very well with the lyrics and melody.

Really nice tune Deej. The acoustic intro framing the vocal was a really nice touch. Incredible vocal and loved the lyric. Well done

Sad subject successfully written into a story, night images are vivid.
Catchy chorus and emotional vocals.
Good arrangement, the selected drum needs some time to get used to, but it fits the angel's falling. I like the bass sound, but in my ears, the cello and the bass are slightly competing with each other.

Bass Thumper, firesong, Derochette, Ghostgum, J&B, TuneMonger, rayc, Alan, Andi, Ezekiel, Scott, and Janne:

Thanks all for giving this one a spin and for the kind words and feedback. It’s much appreciated. A couple of thoughts on your comments below:

firesong: Well, said about there being too much to choose from. I know with BIAB keeping it simple is better (particularly give my production skills). But sometimes it’s hard to help yourself. See my note to Janne about cleaning things up a bit.

rayc: I know there won’t be universal acclaim for the drum choice. But I stumbled upon them, I really liked that they did for the chorus and I’m quite happy with them. That said, I may still need to further adjust the high end a tad (having already done so a bit).

Janne: I’m pretty sure I’m going to remove the Cello. I added it because I felt the song needed something more in spots—but that was before I corrected the bass. Now I agree they compete a bit and it’s not worth it for the couple of moments the cello stands out. Hopefully that will remove a little more mud from the mix.

Thanks again all. Stay safe, stay well!

Deej

WOW this is so good!
Outstanding vocal and lyrics.
Your vocal really made this song - fantastic job!
I liked your dynamics in this one.
Super mix also.
I could see Dylan singing this one.

Loved it.

very dylanesque...and WOW to the vocal emotion.

love the vocal spread and how the subtle bass works so well.
i like the build up intro also the way the bass comes in at 40 secs.

well done..a very interesting song.
maybe its me but actually i liked the drums.

Mario and om,

Appreciate the feedback. And, om, yeah, I personally really love the drums (though I get it might not resonate with everyone). I've dimmed them down just a bit in this latest mix and 86'd the cello. Thanks to you both.

Deej,
Wherever this came from it does sound like a brave departure from many of your previous posted songs- the write is powerful! You have such a "take notice" voice that is always a "wow" for me and the dark subject matter here really hits home with the passion you bring.
I think the style you chose works well and the mix sounds good: one of your best songs!

Robert and Leon:

Really appreciate your giving this one a iisten--like most of my songs, I never quite know where they come from . . . this one in particular . . . but glad it seemed to resonate. Thanks for the comments!

My best to you both,

Deej

Deej,

Excellent. From every angle.
Good write.
Excellent use of BIAB.
Solid vocals (as always).
Good mix.

This had a Harry Chapin vibe to it - the write, the phrasing, the BAND. COOOL.

So good I immediately hit play again...
