Travelling Alone A song about life's regrets. Thanks to Janice Merritt who sings harmony and Bud for his assistance. Leon - Lyric & Vocal Janice - Harmony Vocals I sang a word or two and played one of the finger picked guitars. The Band: RealTracks in song: ~1136:Bass, Acoustic-Guitar, FolkSwing Sw 110 RealTracks in song: ~1678:Guitar, Acoustic, Fingerpicking CountryBrent Sw 085 RealTracks in song: ~530:Guitar, Acoustic, Strumming Hank Sw 085 RealTracks in song: ~527:Guitar, Acoustic, Fingerpicking Hank Sw 085 RealTracks in song: ~1111:Fiddle, Background CountrySwing Sw 085 RealDrums in Song:NashvilleSwing8^1-a:Snare, HiHat , b:Snare, Ride Travelling AloneYou know I always wanted to do the right thing But somehow it was easier to let the Devil in They say he’s got the best tunes, I know that for a fact I may have left the straight road but I’m finding my way back You have been my lodestar, shining in the dark Thought I had my car in drive but the damn thing was in park You know I always wanted to tell it to you straight But somehow it was easier to blame the tricks of fate I took up with a communist, she said she didn’t care If we weren’t exclusive, she was quite OK to share I liked the way she held her drink and her serious ideas I wish I’d told her how I felt before she disappeared I wish I’d told her how I felt before she hit the road Cause it’s much too hard travelling alone Yes it’s much too hard travelling alone Well I heard you were in Esperance or Paris or Madrid I never was entirely sure of what it was I did To make you pack your little bag, put on your travelling shoes But ever since you did I have been wrestling with the blues I hope you’re being careful; there are perils on the road Sometimes the danger signs are clear and sometimes they’re in code Everybody’s nervous and the battle lines are drawn Strange lights in the sky at night and circles in the corn They have their orders; shoot to kill, we don’t negotiate I wish I’d told her how I felt before it was too late I wish I’d laid it on the line before she hit the road Cause it’s much too hard travelling alone Yes it’s much too hard travelling alone I know you always wanted to put on that wedding dress And raise a little family at some bankable address Honesty is hard when it will only break your heart Somehow it was easier to let us drift apart But I wish I’d told you how I felt before I hit the road Cause it’s much too hard travelling alone Yes it’s much too hard travelling alone

Peter.
nice lyrics and character vocals .
nice vocal doubles/femme vocs.
i really like the way the song builds up.
you might disagree , but i felt the tempo might be a tad faster. but thats personal prefs of course.
nicely done song. kudos to you.

Nice song guys. I particularly liked the bridge.
I must say, Janice's voice blends wonderfully with Leon's voice.
Two small nits. The fiddle might perhaps be mixed slightly less hot? Particularly at the beginning of the song.
And, I was actually expecting one of Peter's cool solos as well...

Peter, Leon, Janice and Bud,
Love the ole-time sound of this track! This works so well without the drums in that first section! Everyone has done an excellent job here in their respective duties putting this together!
Thanks, Torrey

Peter and Co,
Nice blues infused ballad. Neat structure, good lyrics / story telling and vocals (and harmony!!). Easy listen. A+ teamwork! Thank you for sharing.

Peter. I loved that fiddle intro. Great vocal, reminds me of Willie Nelson. Great warmth in the mix and song as a whole. Great lyric.
For me, the busier drum track coming in was a little harsh for the song and I would have stuck with the original. Either that or brought it back in for the last verse or toned it down a couple of db.
Great stuff!

Yes, a huge Willie vibe here, and quite an enjoyable tune. Great to get Janice's superb vocals on here. It's just me, I would've liked a subtle clue as to which armed conflict is referred to, unless it's purely fictional. Top work here!

Hello Peter and Friends ...
What a great song! That fiddle is so dang good. Great blend of Janice's b/g vocals.
This might sound a bit weird, but the vocal delivery reminded me a bit of if Boz Scaggs did a country-folk song - the reason I make that comment is the half-singing and half speaking vocal delivery in places. Of course totally different genres but still that characteristic of your vocal on this one brought that to mind. Could be the neurons in my brain are playing games, but that's what thought as I listened.
Regardless - this is a really cool song. Totally enjoyed my listen.
Alan

Peter...what a great ambling easygoing song...the arrangement is so well done ...I love the intro...it has that old country feel...your vocals are top-notch and fit the song so well and Janice adds some great harmony...my only nit is that I don't think the devil has the best tunes

Cool music throughout this song Peter. It felt like an old cowboy campfire song. Especially liked the guitars in here, and the harmonies were great.

The intro really set the mood for the song. Loved the instrumentation.
Thought I had my car in drive but the damn thing was in park
Great line among some really good lyrics. Janice's harmonies were a treat as well.

Great vocal delivery, Peter. I first read the lyrics and loved 'em. When I pushed Play the emotion entered and the song grew strong. Man, when Janice came in, the whole thing took a leap to the top shelf, and you kept it there through the end. Regrets are nothing more than the kind of things the road crew cleans up after a horse parade. You're right, the road is much more rewarding with a travelling companion.

Cowboy song coolness. Well done Peter & Leon, An amusing narrative and a solid melody. Good arrangement and, of course, Janice as icing.
