When I read 176 bpm and it's about a funeral, I thought what?!?! But I hear what you did. Great vocals, sounds like the Jordanaires working out. And a really zinger line: "I wish they could think outside the box." #1 on Soundclick, nice work! Best I've done is #4 on the blues charts. Nice work on the Genos, too. Wish I had one of those.

I got a hit of Elvis in this one.

Outstanding vocal and lyrics

Super groove if not a bit unusual for a funeral song

Great work on that synth

Loved it

Thanks...I think it's the fastest BPM I've ever used in a song...everyone needs to know that I did NOT play the riff on the Genos guitar...that was a prerecorded riff much like BiaB....Genos has hundreds of them that can be incorporated into a song...I hope no one is too disappointed in my keyboard skills smile

Love it, Dan! It's a subject most folks don't want to think about, but for the prepared soul it's no problem! This has got kind of an Elvis type sound to it, and I mean that in a highly complementary way! You just keep knocking out one great tune after another!

Thanks, Torrey

Catchy and toe-tapping! smile

Nice write and backing.

My only nit - the reverb on the lead vocal made it a bit hard for these old ears to make out the lyrics. It took a moment to figure out that if I scrolled down I'd find the lyrics on your page.

I enjoyed this!

But given the Elvis vibe, I'm a bit disappointed you didn't end with "...I've left the building" instead. wink

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

Wonderful, Dan. Tell Neal I'm happy for you two. You had me right from the title, although I didn't quite expect the happiness of death to be so evident. I often wondered why more people don't think like that. A wonderfully refreshing bit of country magic. Cool melody and lyrics and your vocals are always so engaging.

Enjoy whatever happens!

Thanks Torrey...you know that a large number of southern gospel tunes are about heaven and the afterlife...I hope Elvis is there singing gospel songs which he loved to do!

Thanks Marty...happiness in death...well if as the Bible says that death is no longer our enemy...then it must be a friend...in Christ it's just a graduation!

Hello Dan ...

Yep - Southern Gospel written all over it.

As someone else commented, most folks don't like to talk about their mortality. I never say "Id something happens to me ...". I always say "When I die." That's the only thing that's gonna happen to initiate whatever the "When something happens to me" happens. I'm pretty pragmatic about life 0- both the "here" and "after" parts.

Loved the song, particularly the chord progression. Heck of a good song!!!

Your song fits really with what's heard here in my part of the country as good ole southern gospel. Really good write, performance and arrangement. Great vocals all around.

Fantastic song Dan! I'm telling my wife (whom I'm sure will out live me) that I want this one played at my funeral. As always, a superb write - right from the beginning, "When I'm done with dying -" What a great line! And this is really my kind of music. I may have put some more hot picking in it because it reminds me of one of those songs that all the musicians keep jammin' to at the close of service etc, even when everyone else is gone. Can't say enough, another great job on another great song.

Nice to hear humoristic "out-of-the-box" funeral song, should be a celebration event. Very good title, good groove and catchy sing-along melody, made me smile and hope that happens also when they shut the box and sing this song together.

Wow, this is a little bit different than what I've heard from you so far Dan.

Excellent vocals as always (I detect some cool Elvis vibes), but I'm particularly struck by how well-written this song is and how wonderfully it's all mixed.

That modulation at 1:52 is unexpected, but it works. I also very much like the bridge at 2:38.

Rob.

Rob...thanks so much...yeah, I wanted to change it up a bit...Neil deserves most of the credit as the idea guy and primary lyricist on this one for sure...he sent it to me and let me run with it...I think Elvis and the Jordanaires could have done an adequate job with this one smile

We love happy Southern gospel music and this fits perfectly!

The strong bass piano hand had me seeing Happy Goodman and remembering watching the Gaither specials with our mothers. Good memories indeed.

Great lyric, vocals, band and mix, Dan.

Joyous!
