Does anyone know how to change the patch assignments in this program? It always plays the piano for channel 10 for drums. The other channels come out right, but drums do not work. I could use another drum synth for 10 but this sounds so great in biab over VSC or TTS.

You might try checking with DanL. This came up in my previous post about DXi’s.

http://www.pgmusic.com/ubbthreads/showfl...3&fpart=all

Quote:

Omnisynth 2 has a program change script that loads patches automatically, based on what instruments BIAB sends to Sampletank. It's not perfect - drums won't load properly - but it does work for the other instruments. The script is just a text file and it's very easy to modify.

Quote:

Sampletank's Omnisynth 2 now has a script that takes care of program changes for GM. You only have to "tweak" it once when BIAB first loads up by loading the script. After that, it adjusts to each song that you play, loading the correct instrument as defined by BIAB.

You might try checking with DanL via PM, and ask him to post his response on this thread for the benefit of all.

I'm especially interested in DanL's comment that "drums won't load properly".

Hope this helps.

Bob

I use an XG daughtercard for my synth - good XG sounds.
BIAB has always reset my XG configuration back to GM voices - making the drums a piano.
Have recently discovered in BIAB 2010 that if i insert Bank 127 and then the XG voice number (let's say 41) and save as patches etc the XG drums voice remains for that song - and the piano is gone.
Perhaps that is your problem. You may need to input a Bank number for that synth.

Even though I loaded the XG.pat, I still had to go the Bank route.

Cheers - Ian

Robh,

Did you find out anything more about this, especially in regards to the drums?

Yeah Bob i did, i found that it is a flaw in the Omnisynth GM script. So I have to use Real Drums of Jamstix to play the drum track.

Hi Robh,
I'm fairly new to SampleTank, but I've been using it for a few months now. And the more I use it, the more I'm liking it. lol It's not a resource hog, seems to be very stable when configured correctly, and sounds great. Yesterday, I decided to pick up Omnisynth 2 for it, as part of the esounds deal. I've been playing around with it this morning, and I've discovered a couple of things that help when using it in BIAB. In fact, they help enough that I'll probably go ahead and sell my SD-2 module. Since I don't play out anymore, I've been thinking about doing that for a while now.

Anyways, here's the tips. (I'm assuming you have everything configured correctly except the drums keep changing, in BIAB). Hit ctrl and e, -> brings up preferences window. Click on 'midi options' button. Untic 'Drum Patch Changes' . You might check some of your other options while you are there. For example, I have 'midi thru' unticked as I don't use that. When you have all as you want it, close your windows.

This next step isn't necessary, but is a time saver once done. Locate your 'Omni GMBnk2 DRY.stmp' and 'OmniSynth GMBnk1.stmp' files in your 'GM Progr Chng Bnk' folder. Copy both those files and paste them into your BB main folder. (search may locate them faster than you if you don't already know where they are )

(This next step will need to be done every time you start BIAB)

Now, click on the dxi synth button in BIAB. in ST click on 'program ch' button. Click 'open map'. If the dialog button opens in one of the bb folders just hit up until you are in the BB folder, To start, let's choose 'Omni GMBnk2 DRY.stmp', and get it loaded. Now load 'SRGM KIT O1 DRY' in channel 10 of ST. And thats it. You should be good to go.

Just a few things to remember: 1: You'll need to load that .stmp ever time you fire up biab. 2: Change all instruments except drums from the normal place in biab. 3: Change all drum kits via 'dxi synth' button (you can hit that even if biab is playing), and always use GM mapped kits.

Hope this helps,

Later,
Jim

Wow, that's it! I couldn't figure that part out, but unchecking the "Drum Patch Changes" box and loading the drums in ST's channel 10 are the keys. Thanks!

Thanks guys i got it to work great. BiaB suffers to me when it does not ahve a great GM set, and Sampletank Omnisynth is far better than say Rolands TTS or anything like that.

Jim111, you are the man! Not only does that work for me, but I was having all kinds of crash problems with Sampletank/BIAB and those have decreased significantly. Now, with GM, I get a crash only when I exit BIAB. Picking my own instruments is still a problem, I can get a crash that requires a reboot. And I still get a nasty buzzing when switching windows between BIAB and the Sampletank VST, anyone get that?

I'm still new to BIAB and MIDI, but I'm pretty happy with my $20 investment in the TTS-1 (eBay) and $50 for Sampletank Omnisynth and seven instrument libraries. Sampletank is much better than TTS-1 except one instrument group: horns. Does anyone else find that true?

Is there a Sampletank forum somewhere? Not at IK, evidently.

Jim, you're thinking about selling your SD2?!?!?! Did your email shut down? ; )

Hi Bob,
I'm away from home right now, and I haven't been keeping up with things real close, but just checking in from time to time. lol I'm far from an expert on any of this, but I'll give you some of things I've ran across.

One of the things the will cause ST to crash about any host that it's running in is error messages. You can check this by running it stand alone, and trying various things. A good example that I had was trying to load a combi that I had goofed up. In stand alone I would get three error messages in a row (sound not found, or something like that). In a host, trying to do the same thing, I would just get a bad crash and no error messages.

When you do have a bad crash, be patient with it and you shouldn't have to reboot unless you would just rather go that route. A crash loads a bunch or Dr. Watson stuff that ties up your machine and takes a while to run. Give it the old three finger salute, find that (error collecting) process and kill it first, then your application process.

Noise between switching windows is often related to asio and sound card issues. If you do a search of the forums here you should find several threads with some really good info in them.

I don't have the tts-1, but I researched it a little, and yes, it is reported to have some very good orchestral instrument sounds, especially in the upper banks. Also, since it is a synth, those sounds can be "tweeked". Here is a good article on it, in case you haven't read it already. http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/jun05/articles/sonartech.htm

There is some good info on ST at the kvr forums, but finding it is a royal pain. Find the esoundz slot over there and that can help narrow your search down. There is also some you-tube vids that help.

And yes, I'm going to sell my SD2. I don't play live anymore except for few gigs here and there with a local band, and I don't use it anymore. It's been sitting on a shelf for about two months now, so I going to fine it a happy home lol. PM me if you're interested.

Hope this helps and have a great day.
Jim
