Ok, I have never used the Melodine software since all of my tunes are instrumentals but I sure appreciate a good song when I hear one. Loved the overall song and fantastic vocals.

Firesong.

re your song

i forgot to mention 'why' i think this is a super song.
so let me correct this and mention the following..
bcos this is a very talented song. i'm even more convinced after repeated listening.

years ago i hung out with some musos who were way better than i.
what i learnt from them was that 'the man or woman in the street' ie the normal music consumer often has a very different view of a song than a very 'technical' viewpoint…eg this instrument should be down -3db or cut the 8khz by 'X'.

it was also pointed out to me that many demo songs had gone on to success based on 'song hooks' , and whether the overall 'sound picture' grabbed the normal music consumer. basically at the time i was focussing too much on the deep technicalities of song production which drove me bonkers..lol…

in summary, as i'm not a qualified song production technician or mastering engineer....
(i'm more a singer/songwriter and do the best i can ).
i try to offer a 'person in the street' opinion. i hope this makes sense.

once again let me say imho this is a 'very special' super duper song with song hooks and a great song picture.
i wish you great success with it.
i love the emotion evoked in the song vocals etc.

happiness/and kudos/i'm knocked out by the song.

om

om...omg!...thank you so much...I'm not a tech guy either...almost every time I record I get stumped by my software in one fashion or another...I can't read music or know any scales...but I have a target...the heart of the listener...more times than not I miss but when you land there for anyone it is a humbling experience...and so Praise the Lord (my source) and thanks to you for such an encouraging and humbling response to this song...the key for me in songwriting is not talent but anointing...if that's there the song will accomplish what it's supposed to...my best regards...Dan

Hi Dan ...

What a wonderful song and the production is so good. If I had a voice like yours, I'd never quit singing. I've never had a good singing voice, just enough to get the intent of the vocal for a good singer.

I truly enjoyed my listen - it was enveloping and too me from my moment and captured me for the duration of the song.

I'm kinda like you and om - not much on the production side. My strength, if I do, indeed, have any, are on the instrumental composition and arrangement. After that, there's a lot of hit and miss - more miss than hit.

Thanks for a truly wonderful listen.

Alan

Harmonies sound great to me Firesong! I'll have to check out Melodyne, thanks for the tip!!

Is the style you used really "Backpacker Cajun"? I see the word Cajun and I was definitely expecting a much different production. Don't get me wrong, I loved it, I was just surprised is all.

Na zdrowie!

Dewey...thanks for listening and commenting...yeah, I've experimented with three softwares to try to create good harmonies...Melodyne, VariAudio (part of my Cubase software package) and Little Alter Boy from Soundtoys...they are all interesting and fun to fool around with...in a pinch they can help fill the bill...I did start with "Backpacker Cajun"...the title is a bit confusing for the style it presents...thanks again...Dan

Nice acoustic accompaniment. Your vocals are strong and emotive. As I was listening to your fine vocal performance, I was thinking how we have some good vocalists here on the forum with such a variety of style and timbres. Good song!

Hi Dan, I think your track is really well done. Music choices and vocal work together well. The harmony was a nice lift near the end. Really good track!

ps: I used to hang out at soundclick back when they had a weekly song contest on the forum there. I still have my acoustic stuff there. deja vu

Dan,

This is a beautiful tune! The whole production is lush and full! The strings sound super! I was a bit surprised when you mentioned using melodyne knowing how great your harmonies are on everything you do, but I can certainly relate to the getting older and it being more difficult thing! I personally feel you don't need that help (your harmony worked can't be topped in this forum IMHO) but don't fault you at all for using it if it makes your workflow easier! I really liked this song!

Thanks, Torrey
