That is a common sense approach to learning a new DAW.

The one thing I think he should have emphasized more are the help functions. When I get stumped the help functions are the first thing I go to and most of the time they will solve my problem.

I like learning new things, but sometimes when I replace software with something new, I get impatient. I know how to do this on the old, and I know in time I'll learn how to do it on the new app, but I'd get what I want done much quicker on the old.

But if the new is better, once you get over the hump, it's worth it.

Boy, have I not learnt about this in the past week or so. Soon I’ll be away from my PC for a while so I thought I’d try and use Scaler 2 on the iPad. Then I needed a DAW so I get Cubasis which is subtly different to either Reaper or Cakewalk.

At first I was just going to use GarageBand but found I could not export MIDI. So I thought Cubasis would be fine. Not only are the methods required different but also the instruments. I found adjusting MIDI notes totally different (not understanding the process). I then got Auria which is a lot more like a traditional DAW. I started to get things organised and saw a YouTube video and a guy manipulating the MIDI notes with a pen in Cubasis that made it all simpler.

Then most of the YouTube video folk seem to also use Audiobus so I loaded it and all the stuff I had in the Novation LaunchKey Mini I purchased to use with all this stopped working. More to learn.

Maybe too many things at once. I agree with Guy, take your time and learn the short cuts and nuance’s. Using an iPad is a completely different way of doing stuff to me but I’m learning and it will keep me occupied for the time I need. By the time I get back to my PC I should have a way to sit in my lounge chair and create music on the iPad that I can send back to the PC to add to my normal methods.

It’s all good fun as frustrating as it is.

Tony

(I just fired it all up again and all parts played nicely together. Audiiobus found the controller and allowed the connection to Cubasis. I should be able to add effects etc into the mix(I don’t have any yet)).

I'm going to bookmark that video for the next time I can't sleep. What a BORING speaker to listen to! It's bad enough he took half of the video to get TO the content, the content was boring. (Though that's how Youtubers are. Gotta be over 15 minutes to make money on ads.) But that monotonous voice... Blimey!

I did wish he had sat on his hands instead of waving them around in some crazy fashion throughout his entire performance. Incredibly distracting crazy
