No, they never really close your account, just take it off line. I guess they're hoping you'll change your mind and reclaim it eventually, contacts and info intact.

Since I use FB essentially for self-promotion I don't see any sense in hiding anything from anybody. I wouldn't be there otherwise -- in fact, I held off from joining for a long time simply because so much info was hidden from people browsing through.
