MISSED IT ALL

stillness wakes me up in the middle of the night
it's way too quiet, i know something ain't right
what kind of moonshine have the stars been drinking
i stumble to the bathroom without really thinking

first thing i notice is your toothbrush is gone
didn't see the bed was empty with no lights on
turns out your favorite t-shirt is missing from my drawer
all indications are you don't wanna be here no more

ow many signs did i refuse to see
how many signs did i ignore
how many things just slipped right by me
blinded by what i wasn't looking for
   i realize suddenly
   i missed it all
right there in front of me
   and i missed it all

it took me by surprise, it caught me off guard
turned me inside out, turned my head around hard
in a fog i wander from room to room
my cries echoing through this empty tomb

how did i not know that you were disillusioned
drowning in despair and shattered illusions
a fool seldom knows what a fool he's been
until it's far too late and the verdict is in

how many signs did i refuse to see
how many signs did i ignore
how many things just slipped right by me
blinded by what i wasn't looking for
   i realize suddenly
   i missed it all
right there in front of me
   and i missed it all

Thanks for listening.

Very cool stuff in there.

This might be the closest thing to modern country that one hears on the radio these days that I have heard in this forum.

Nicely done.

Sounds modern and could easily be played on the radio. It's pop...that's good!
I like it!

Even though this kind of guitar intro has been a bit overused in recent years, it still sounds fresh and new. Good job smile

Production wise it's excellent, arrangement, mix, some cool sound effects...absolutely nothing to complain about.

"what kind of moonshine have the stars been drinking"
That's cool.

Lots of contemporary production bits which make a wonderful backing BUT the foundation of this is a classic story in a classic song sung with a classic voice.

Cheers

Floyd...you stepped outside the box for this one!...another brilliant write and arrangement...sounded more pop than country to me but crossing over is what country does sometimes and you did it in a very cool way!....the percussion really carries the groove...the finger snaps (or claps or whatever they are) are such a cool effect...everything works...great vocals...so well produced!

FLOYD! You not only always put out some wonderfully crafted songs with the best mix and master, with the most clever, relatable lyrics, with the best vocals and band playing the best parts of your music, you do it over and over again like a freight train that never needs fuel. Your fuel is creativity, and it runs through you in well-worn tracks of songwriting genius. Man, I am so glad to be at one of your regular stops. Whichever of your songs I'm listening to, I always feel it's even better than the last. This exceptional piece is no exception to that rule. Excellent dynamics and sing-alongable melody with a classic Country sadness.

Hope Ian ignored you. Hope you missed it.

Enjoy whatever happens!

Hello Floyd,

I was away from the forum for some months. When I came back few days ago, I noticed some things never change. Not the forum, the quality of songs and your never ending effort and succes with your new songs. Marty (above) had the words I felt when listening to this song.
Very, very nice guitarplay and tension in the verses, followed by a somewhat 'suprising' chorus that made me sit straight up in my chair. Wonderful! And after that the outro was really great, with the vocals and the way the band ended like the song began.

Happy with it,
Hans

Sounds like Ed Sheeran, but with much more interesting chord progression and ten times catchier chorus. Very good modern arrangement, interesting selection of RTs used very creatively. The usual story sung with good passion.

Fun clickity ear candy.

I mean, lyrically sad. Sad, sad... that's the ticket.

Nope, too upbeat for me to be sad. wink

And like rayc, this line made me pay attention:

what kind of moonshine have the stars been drinking

Nice!

Thanks, Herb.
It's not hard being the "closest thing...in this forum" since no one makes much effort to "do modern" here...

Yes, that guitar style is heavily used for these type songs (even overused). But...we don't heard it much here in the forum (I'm not sure you can re-create it using BIAB - this was a loop)

Hi Floyd,

We don't know if this is country. But that maybe because we are "from a different country".
We hear a very, very good pop song with contemporary sounds and contemporary music!
Great voice and great lyrics too.

Enjoyed the listen!

Gosh Floyd, another good write, but man I am really impressed with the production. My personal preference has always been the older sound of country, and you've consistently proved you've got that down pat. This new country is where the money is now, and man you have a great example of it here. The words are and story are great and well put together, but the creativity you've used in putting this sound together is simply awesome. You're a man of many talents. Once again, great job and very impressive production.

Love all the production in this, it didn't sound country to me at all but I only know the old stuff. Great lyrics, great singing (of course), just the right amount of emotion in your voice. Earlier in the week I had a song in my head all day long but I was too busy to pay it any mind. Finally I stopped long enough to realize it was "Good thing I gave my heart to you." That song is ear worm deluxe. Maybe this one is, too. We'll see.
