Hallo,
ich habe noch die 2006er Version von Band in a box. Die läuft soweit ganz gut.
Das einzige, was ich nicht hinkriege, ist die Midi-Sounds über meine externe Soundkarte (Alesis IO 26) ausgeben zu lassen. Zur Auswahl stehen der Microsoft Midi-Mapper und der Microsoft GS Wavetable SW (wobei der verschwindet, wenn ich meine interne Laptop-Soundkarte deaktiviere).
Außerdem noch der Midi-Output Treiber der externen Karte. Aber wenn ich den selektiere, werden die Midi-Signale über den physikalischen Midi-Output-Port der externen Karte ausgegeben, das heißt, ich müsste einen Hardware-Tonerzeuger anschließen, um was zu hören. Das ist aber nicht mein Ziel. :-)
Also: Wie kann ich die Midi-Sounds über den Audio-Out Port der externen Soundkarte ausgeben lassen?

Hallo,
erkennt Dein Windows (welche Version hast Du??) die Alesis-Karte denn?
Wenn ja, dann müssten beide Karten (Onboard und extern) in den Windows-Systemeinstellungen sichtbar sein. WAV- und MIDI-Sound müssen hier auf die Alesis geroutet sein. Wenn vorher die Onbardkarte als Ausgabegerät gewählt war und Du die Karte z.B. per BIOS abstellst, spielt Windows solange nichts, bis Du die Ausgabe auf die Alesis routest. Das könnte auch erklären, warum der MS Wavetable "verschwunden" ist. Abstellen musst Du m.E. die Onbordkarte auch gar nicht, die Firewire-Alesis sollte sich damit eigentlich vertragen.
Spielt der Windows Media Player eigentlich MIDI-Dateien mit der Alesis ab?
Wenn Windows die Alesis nicht erkennt, stimmen eventuell Installation oder Treiberversion nicht.
Die korrekte Windowseinstellung ist Voraussetzung, damit BIAB den Sound ausgeben kann.
In BIAB selbst musst Du bei MIDI-Out-Treiber den MS Wavetable nehmen, da Deine Alesis ja keine eigene Klangerzeugung hat. Der Sound entsteht durch Wandlung der MIDI-Daten per MS Wavetable im Laptop und wird dann als AUDIO von der Alesis ausgegeben. Als BIAB-Audioteiber dann einen Treiber der Alesis nehmen (ASIO, MME oder WDK).
DXI hatte BIAB 2006 glaub ich noch nicht - oder doch? Falls doch, dann das Häkchen bei DXI aber zunächst weglassen und den reinen MS Wavetablesound über die Alesis "genießen". Der Wavetable müsste wieder sichtbar sein, sobald die Alesis in Windows korrekt erkannt wird. Wenn DXI in BIAB 2006 wählbar ist, kannst Du später auch den Roland VCS oder ForteDXI installieren und das Häkchen bei DXI setzen. MS Wavetable aber beibehalten, dessen Sound wird dann per DXI-Synth in besserer Qualität an Deine Alesis weitergereicht.

Hi, danke für deine ausführliche Antwort.
Also mit den Systemeinstellungen meinst du wahrscheinlich "Sounds und Audiogeräte" in der Systemsteuerung, gell? (Ich hab Windows XP Professional).
Windows erkennt das Alesis schon, das ist auch überall als primäres Sounddevice eingestellt, Mediaplayer und Winamp spielen aber MIDI ausschließlich über die interne Soundkarte ab. Bei der Midi-Musikwiedergabe habe ich als Standardgerät "Microsoft GS Wavetable SW Synth", denn wenn ich "Alesis Firewire MIDI" auswähle, werden nur die MIDI-Befehle über die MIDI-Schnittstelle geschickt.
Kannst du mir sagen, an welcher Stelle ich die MIDI-Sounds auf meine Alesis-Karte routen kann?

In der Systemsteuerung bei XP - wenn ich mich noch richtig erinnere - gibt es die Dialogbox “Soundwiedergabe und -aufnahme”. Dort kannst Du drei Einstellungen für 1. Soundwiedergabe 2. Soundaufnahme und 3. MIDI vornehmen. 1. und 2. müssen auf die Alesis geroutet sein, 3. auf MS Wavetable. Häkchen bei "nur Standardgeräte verwenden" setzen.
Damit werden die MIDI-Daten nicht zur Alesis geschickt, die mangels eigenem Klangerzeuger nichts damit anfangen kann, sondern an den Softwaresynth "MS Wavetable" von Windows. Die per Softwaresynth erzeugten Klänge werden dann als Audio von dem unter "1. Soundwiedergabe" eingestellten Standardgerät ausgegeben. In Windows wird das über DirektX oder DirektShow in den Tiefen des Systems geregelt. Soweit die Theorie.
Wenn Mediaplayer und Winap bei Dir MIDI trotzdem über die Onboardkarte ausgeben, stimmt irgendwas nicht. Vielleicht ist die Einstellung unter 1. doch nicht korrekt oder das Häkchen "nur Standardgerät verwenden" ist nicht gesetzt und gleichzeitig ist irgendwo anders die Onboardkarte noch für die Wiedergabe eingestellt.
Möglicherweise bringt die Alesis-Karte aber auch noch ein eigenes Konfigurationsprogramm mit und dort sind andere Einstellungen, die dann die Windowseinstellung überschreiben. Schau ggf. dort nach.

Hmm, habe alles so eingestellt. Das Häkchen war tatsächlich nicht gesetzt.
Trotzdem läuft immer noch alles MIDI über meine interne Karte. Obwohl bei "Info" steht "Aktuelles Audioausgabegerät: Digitales Audioausgabegerät für den Softwaresynthesizer: Alesis Firewire Audio"
Das ist seltsam, denn früher hatte ich das schonmal hinbekommen.
Eine Routingsoftware bietet Alesis leider nicht an.

Wave und Systemsounds laufen über die Alesis-Karte, ja.
Das Ding hat einen Mixer, in dem man aber nur die einzelnen Kanäle einpegeln kann und das jeweils für verschiedene Ausgänge. Das wars dann aber auch schon mit dem routen.
Ich denke, dass das Problem irgendwo bei Windows liegt, ich kann mir nur nicht vorstellen, wo...

D.h. Wave und Systemsounds erklingen über die Lautsprecher, die am Ausgang der Alesis-Karte hängen und die Midi-Sounds erklingen über die Onboardkarte aus den eingebauten Laptop-Lautsprechern?  Sehr Seltsam! Kann eigentlich gar nicht sein! Hast Du mal bei der Alesis zwischen ASIO und WDM umgeschaltet? Die hat glaube ich beide Treiberoptionen. Starte auch mal DXdiag.exe und dort den DirectMusic Test. Irgendwas könnte mit den Windowstreibern nicht stimmen. Vielleicht hilft es auch, die Alesis-Treiber noch einmal zu installieren. Bei der Alesis-Mixer-Software müsstest Du außerdem verschiedene Eingänge auf die Ausgänge legen könne. Ggf. ist hier was nicht korrekt geroutet. Eventuell ist auch DirectMonitoring aktiviert und funkt dazwischen, stell das mal probeweise ab. Ralf

Also,
wenn ich DXdiag.exe ausführe, höre ich den MIDI-Sound eigentlich immer auch über die Alesis Karte, wenn ein Alesis auch im Treibernamen vorkommt.
Nur bei Microsoft Midi Mapper [emuliert] und Microsoft GS Wavetable SW Synth [emuliert] kommen die Sounds nach wie vor nur über meine interne Karte.
Wo kann ich Direct Monitoring deaktivieren?

DirektMonitoring muss irgendwo in den Alesis-Config-Menüs eingestellt werden können. Damit wird beim Aufnehmen über die Karte das Eingangssignal direkt wieder an die Ausgänge geschickt bzw. im Mixer auch mit dem Playback gemischt. Das könnte je nach Einstellung Deiner Eingänge im Mixer un im Routing eventuell stören. Geht auch mehr darum, eine zusätzliche Fehlerquelle auszuschalten.
Wenn aber DXdiag.exe den Midi-Sound auf Deine Alesis schickt, scheint ja im Prinzip alles zu funktionieren. Da wird ja auch nichts anderes als die Ausgabe des Wavetable SW Synth auf die Karte gelegt.
Aber warum klappt das mit MediaPlayer, WINAMP und BIAB nicht???
Hast Du mal in der Alesis-Steuerung zwischen ASIO- und WDM-Treiber gewechselt?
Wenn der WDM-Treiber gewählt ist, stelle in BIAB unter "Audio-Einstellungen"->"Audio Treiber-Typ" von ASIO auf MME um. Dann unter "Midi-Treiber-Out" auf "MS GS Wavetable SW". Und versuch es dann mit der Midi-Ausgabe.
Wahlweise dann dasselbe, aber diesmal in der Alesis-Steuerung und bei BIAB-Audio den ASIO-Teiber auswählen.
Wenn auch das nicht hilft, dann schalte doch mal im BIOS des Laptops die Onboard-Soundkarte aus und installiere dann die Alesis-Treiber neu. Vielleicht war bei der parallelen Nutzung und Treiberinstallation in Windows etwas durch einander geraten. Ohne aktiver Onboard-Karte bleibt ja nur der Weg über die Alesis.

Also im Alesis Control Panel kann ich leider nicht einstellen, ob ASIO oder WDM genutzt werden soll.
Habe es inzwischen mit meinem alten M-Audio Firewire Solo probiert, und da ging alles sofort problemlos.
Im Bios kann ich die Karte auch nicht deaktivieren. Wenn ich sie in Windows deaktiviere, ist die Situation die folgende:
Alle Signale werden nur noch über die Midi-Schnittstelle des Alesis ausgegeben, auch wenn ich den Microsoft Midi-Mapper als Ausgabe einstelle. Microsoft GS Wavetable SW Synth ist dann wie schon gesagt verschwunden.
Auch habe ich das Alesis nochmal neu installiert, wobei er die Einstellungen danach noch kannte komischerweise.
Ich kriege es einfach nicht hin.

Übrigens hab ich nochmal ne alte Cubase Version installiert. Wenn ich dort VST-Instrumente einstelle, laufen die erfreulicherweise standardmäßig über meine Alesis Karte.
Wenn ich jedoch den Windows GS Wavetable SW Synth dort einstelle, läuft wieder nur alles über meine interne Karte.
Irgendwie fällt mir aber auf, dass sowohl hinter dem Windows GS Wavetable SW Synth, als auch hinter dem Microsoft Midi-Mapper ein "[emuliert]" steht. Ich meine mich zu erinnern, dass es das früher in doppelter Ausführung gegeben hat, einmal ohne und einmal mit "[emuliert]".
Hast du dazu noch ne Idee?

Das mit den emulierten Midi-Treibern ist eine komplizierte Angelegenheit und hängt irgendwie mit externen Midi-Geräten an USB und FireWire und deren Treibern zusammen. Steinberg hatte dazu mal was geschrieben: ftp://ftp.steinberg.net/Download/General...t_Filter_DE.pdf Vielleicht bringt Dich das weiter. Ich kann Dir da vor allem mangels installiertem XP nicht weiterhelfen. Ich an Deiner Stelle würde aber auf jeden Fall einmal die onboad-Karte im BIOS des Rechners deaktivieren. Da muss es eine Funktion geben, schau mal im Handbuch des Laptops nach. Würde mich schwer wundern, wenn die bei Dir fehlt. Ich glaube generell, Dein XP hat den MS Wavetable aus irgendeinem Grund mit der onbaord-Karte verknüpft. Und solange diese Karte für XP sichtbar ist, wird sich nichts tun - deshalb deaktiviere sie probehalber. Die Alesis-Karte und deren Einstellung ist ja prinzipiell o.k., es kommen ja Sounds an. Ralf
