When IO listened to the song several times after deciding on the tracks, I also fgoubnd a few places where there was, lacking a better word, a mild clash between the steel and the piano. After listening a few more times, I decided that was good rather than disturbing. The song is about a clash of emotions, so, not only did I leave those parts in , I brought the piano slightly more forward in the mix to punctuate that aspect. Apparently it worked!
