I'm using BIAB 2022 for Mac. On playback, the audio will "stumble" or "glitch" quickly. This happens on demo songs as well as those I've created myself. It's as though the computer has to go think about something else for a few milliseconds, resulting in a glitch in the playback. I have already disabled all of the login items, thinking that something there was the problem.

This makes the product almost useless to me in my studio. I would appreciate any help.

It's been fine with me Bruce. I got my copy a few weeks ago. Am using an imac 24" 8gig ram and NO audio interface. Just taking the biab sound direct from the programme into my Bowers & Wilkins headphones.
I WAS having glitches in my old windows PC but everything's been a smooth as silk so far .

Bruce .

it would help other mac users to help you lots if you gave some details about your mac rig. eg OS version and year of your mac.
and further details about your rig like are you using a sound interface ?

i would suggest if you google "what causes audio glitches and dropouts in apple macs' there are various reasons for this behaviour if you go thru' the google results.
i just did this and found theres a plethora of info in google results.

Furry.

i never get a glitch in win on any music production software i use.

a couple of reasons come to mind why win glitches occur.
running recording and playback on a old slow hd/pc that win also resides on..so if win wants to do something the recording/playback gets interrupted by win.
solution is to use a second drive dedicated and separate from win. its the old 'too many rats in a box cause probs' conundrum.

sometimes glitches can occur if other non audio processes are running also.
my basic rules for music production under win is to use ssd's for win and recording.
also i turn off the net and other extraneous processes.
in summary i dedicate the pc to only music production.
(for further info/solutions/more reasons for glitches etc google "optimising a windows pc for music production"..theres a ton of info.)

by any chance furry are you useing a one drive pc laptop ??

take care/happiness/hth/ymmv.

om

Look at the Activity Monitor. Processes that glitch will show up in red temporarily. Chase them down and eliminate from your system; resolve any conflicts.

Do you have any Corel products installed other than Roxio Toast? There's an updater daemon that caused this exact issue for me; the only fix was to remove every Corel product from my system. The company doesn't admit the problem but I can make it reoccur by reinstalling any of their products. It was the Activity Monitor that let me find and fix this on my machines.

It doesn't have to be Corel. There are similar issues with Dropbox if you let it back up everything (I have that turned off). Do you have AutoTune installed? There are issues with older versions of the CodeMeter runtime that Antares uses for its license. How about antivirus apps—if old or not configured properly or crapware such as drive optimization and bla, bla, bla…?

What oldmuseo says about Microsoft OneDrive. If you have it, get rid of it. Microsoft has had so many problems that they threw in the towel and it is no longer part of Office as of January 2022. As of March, it no longer syncs and MS has discontinued support.

Also, you've given no clue as to your setup including hardware, MacOS, what version of BIAB and how you have it installed. I know the Mac inside out, upside down and sideways but I don't read minds.

I have tried moving BIAB to different hard drives in the system, with no change to the stumbles.
I have run system monitor while playing back and do not see any process that arises during stumbles.
I have tried running BIAB from the "backup" hard drive with no change to stumbles.
I have disabled the internet on this machine with no change to stumbles.

I am running BIAB for Mac 2022 (605)

I use this machine rather extensively for music production, including running Digital Performer 10 with no problems.

Any help would be appreciated.

I think I fixed it. I uninstalled a bunch of unnecessary apps that I don't use for music production, including Dropbox and Box. All seems well now.

Everyone's suggestions were be helpful. This was very frustrating as you can imagine.

To answer an earlier question I'm running an imac 24" ( which I mentioned in my first post ) I DO however run biab directly from its own hard drive suppled by PG music

Bruce, glad you have it resolved. Recent changes to Dropbox would have put it square at the top of my list.

Bruce and Graham, I notice that neither of you list your MacOS. This is often necessary when troubleshooting, especially with an MP 5.1 which may or may not have to have been hacked to run whatever OS.

Graham, you have BIAB 2022 running over El Capitán or something earlier? I have a 24" that I've upgraded with an SSD taking up space in my studio. I'd love to give it away but without knowing what these will run anymore, I've been reluctant to put it out there. Hate to recycle it if there's any life left.

202 New RealTracks Released with Band-in-a-Box 2026!

With Band-in-a-Box® 2026, we've released 202 incredible new RealTracks (in sets 468-488) in a variety of genres—featuring your most requested styles!

Jazz, Funk & World (Sets 468-475):
Our new jazz, funk & blues RealTracks include a groovin’ collection of RealTracks and RealDrums! These include more requested “soul jazz” RealTracks featuring artists Neil Swainson (bass), Charles Treadway (organ), Brent Mason (guitar), and Wes Little (drums). There are new “smooth jazz” styles (4), which include a RealTracks first: muted trumpet, as well as slick new smooth jazz brushes options for drums. Blues lovers will be thrilled—there are more “classic acoustic blues” styles, including guitar (5), bass (4), and drums (10) with blues master Colin Linden, featuring understated and tasty background acoustic soloing, plus brushes drums and acoustic bass. There are also new electric blues RealTracks, including electric blues with PG favorite Johnny Hiland (3) and soulful electric slide guitar from Colin Linden (4). If you love funk & gospel, there are great new options this year, including gospel organ (3) from Charles Treadway, as well as new funk, tango, and rock ’n’ roll drums (3) and bass (1). And for big, bold arrangements, we have uptempo soul horns (4) featuring a three-part hip horn section with options for a full mix or stems of each individual horn — plus an accompanying rhythm section (4) of drums, bass, guitar, and electric piano!

Rock & Pop (Sets 476–482):
Our new rock & pop RealTracks bring a powerful mix of requested favorites, fresh genres, and modern chart-inspired styles! We have more of our popular “Producer Layered Acoustic Guitars (15)” featuring Band-in-a-Box favorite Brent Mason. We’ve continued our much-requested disco styles (10), and added new Celtic guitar (5) with a more basic, accessible approach than our previous Drop-D or DADGAD offerings. There are also highly requested yacht rock styles (17), inspired by the smooth, polished soft-rock sound of the late ’70s and early ’80s — laid-back grooves, silky electric pianos, warm textures, elegant harmonic movement, and pristine production aesthetics. Fans of heavier styles will love our new glam metal (13), capturing the flashy, high-energy sound of ’80s arena-ready guitar rock. We also have a set of rootsy modern-folk rock (18), with a warm, organic sound combining contemporary folk textures and driving acoustic strumming. And we’ve added lots of new modern pop styles (16) — the kinds of sounds you’re hearing on the radio today, featuring exciting new drums, synths, and cutting-edge RealTracks arrangements.

Country, & Americana (Sets 483–488):
Our new country & Americana RealTracks deliver a rich collection of acoustic, electric, and roots-inspired styles! We have new country pop (9) with legendary guitarist Brent Mason. There is also a potpourri (14) of bouzouki, guitars, banjo, and more, perfect for adding texture and character to contemporary acoustic arrangements. We’ve added funky country guitar (5) with PG favorite Brent Mason, along with classic pedal steel styles (5) featuring steel great Doug Jernigan. There are more country songwriter styles (8) that provide intimate, rootsy foundations for storytelling and modern Americana writing. Finally, we have “background soloing” acoustic guitar (12) with Brent Mason — simpler, but still very tasty acoustic lines designed to sit beautifully behind vocals or act as a subtle standalone solo part.

Check out all the 202 new RealTracks (in sets 468-488)!

And, if you are looking for more, the 2026 49-PAK (for $49) includes an impressive collection of 20 bonus RealTracks, featuring exciting and inspiring additions to add to your RealTracks library. You'll get new country-rhythm guitar styles from PG Music favorites Johnny Hiland and Brent Mason, along with modern-pop grooves that capture today’s radio-ready sound! There are also new indie-folk styles with guitar, bass, 6-string bass used as a high-chording instrument, acoustic guitar, and banjo. Plus, dedicated "cymbal fills" RealDrums provide an added layer that work very well with low-key folky styles with other percussion.
