I'm Too Old To Party I started writing this song five years ago, around my birthday, with my friend Miira. Recently I thought that it had been too long on the shelf waiting for female vocals, so I decided to finish and publish it with Solaria singing the female duet part with me. I think this is funny little tune and has nice African feel, but what do you think, should I have left it on the shelf? Loops: gangstar_beat_95b_drums_ev16 RealTracks: VocalOohsAahs #2975 Electric Piano Held #2495 Electric Guitar Rhythm #1770, #1771 MIDI tracks from an unknown BIAB style using VSTi: Bass => Kontakt/Scarbee MM-Bass-Amped-Heavy Guitar => Kontakt/West Africa/Kora Piano => Kontakt/West Africa/Balafon 3 Other MIDI: Percussions: Kontakt/West Africa/Kono Flute: Kontakt/West Africa/Fula Flute Vocals: me & Solaria Mixed in Cakewalk by BandLab, mastered with Ozone 10 Lyrics: I'm too old to party/I can't revel all night long I'm no longer hearty/my manners reveal I'm an aged ding-dong. (I'm too old to party, I'm too old to party, I'm too old to party on my special day) I'm too old for red wine/I'm too drunk to make a toast my mind is close to offline/too tongue-tied to be my own banquet host. (I'm too old to party, I'm too old to party, I'm too old to party on my birthday) Sorry I'm not the party queen I'm grumpy, frumpy, a sleepy has-been can't keep up with the lively teens, I'm a dinosaur I'm too old to party anymore. I'm too old for dancing/I'm dizzy, tripping on my feet my steps are not advancing/they can't conform to the waltzing beat. (I'm too old to party, I'm too old to party, I'm too old to party on my special day) I'm too old for passion/I'll close my eyes when I'm in bed my acts are out of fashion/I'm not the spouse who you thought you wed. (I'm too old to party, I'm too old to party, I'm too old to party on my wedding day) Sorry I'm not... Too old for empty chatting/I didn't arrive here to break the ice I lay down on the matting/that pillow with frills is my paradise. (I'm too old to party, I'm too old to party, I'm too old to party on my special day) My lips are too rigid/they can't fake the shallow smile you might think I'm frigid/the truth is I'm dead not a juvenile. (I'm too old to party, I'm too old to party, I'm too old to party at my funeral) Sorry I'm not... My friends tell I was a merry-maker in my youth a party guy, maybe they just sugar coat the truth I was never breakdancing on the floor I was trying to find a position not to snore. ----------------- Janne

Yes, an African Island sound. Man, this is cool, Janne. These lyrics are so good. The whole thing is like a fun movie. Does that make any sense? Every verse is a gem. I can't stop laughing and I'm still smiling as I type. The whole thing is loaded with outstanding lyrics, so I'll just quote the end: "My friends tell I was a merry-maker in my youth a party guy, maybe they just sugar coat the truth I was never breakdancing on the floor I was trying to find a position not to snore."
This is way too cool to be kept on a shelf. Seriously, man, the lyrics are some of the best I've ever heard --EVER. Love the vocals. Great band. GOod mix.

Hi Janne,
I suppose your question about leaving the song on the shelf is rhetorical? It's a lovely, funny song and it really deserves a lot of listeners. Solaria is terrific and your voice doesn't sound bad at all. It's a good combination.

You're never too old to party I like the song, and Solaria does a good job. The percussion in the verse is a bit too busy for my taste, but overall I like the arrangement, and the production is pretty good too.

Janne, I hope I NEVER get that old Super groove. Great vocal ... love those lyrics! Loved that flute. Nice mix Ps - I can snore in any position, just ask my wife!

Janne,
Glad you were able to save this one before leaving it on the shelf too long! I certainly know how it feels to let a neglected tune slip away from memory! It's a lovely sounding lighter feeling tune! You did an excellent job all around on it, especially with the synth voice!
Thanks, Torrey

Ohhhhhhhhhhh noooooooooooooooo! I do not want to hear that message! Just kidding. A very funny song with a lot of great lines. The happy African rhythms were perfect for this kind of song. Great work with the synth voice. A lot of fun listening to this!

Janne, That is one funny tune. Very good effort of using vocal synth! Unusual and interesting Afro flavor. And to me this answers your question. In my view, there is a very special beauty in all non standard approaches to music. It is like seeing a coconut palm tree growing in Helsinki, makes you wonder. Thank you for sharing.
Misha.

Fun, upbeat and funny lyrics. And it sounds awesome through my headphones. The keys coming in at the chorus gives a nice lift. And the flutes were a real treat. I love the contrast between the two voices, as well as the call and response. You two sound good together! The definitely shouldn't be on the shelf!

Janne, I won't make jokes about you're being to old to party, but your AI-singer surely isn't. Although I'm worried that you think you're too old for red wine too!
Seriously; a very nice tropical song! And I very much like your duet with the AI lady. I just wrote David that I was thinking about trying that one day. Now you did it! I had some hope though you would have used a steelband in your song (in the chorusses for instance). Nevertheless, a very funny entertaining song!

Janne,
Your lyrics are always interesting. And, in this case, with a sense of humor. You and Solaria do a good job on vocals. You sound good together.
I like that you "experiment" with tracks. Percussion is cool. (I thought it could have used some more variance along the way).
Enjoyed the listen.

This must be the absolute most funniest songs I've ever heard. No offense to Lawrence Welk and the Geritol commercials, but they can't hold a candle to this. You are one creative dude ! To any youngbloods out there that are smirking, just wait . . . you'll be singing this soon
https://soundcloud.com/user-646279677BiaB 2025 Windows For me there’s no better place in the band than to have one leg in the harmony world and the other in the percussive. Thank you Paul Tutmarc and Leo Fender.

Wow, thanks Marty, I never expected to read this positive review It is a true honor to read that you think the lyrics are some of the best and they made you laugh and smile I remember we had fun writing them, and many funny lines had to be left out (like about losing oral continence and reference to Sleeping Beauty). Thanks again, you really made my day Janne

Anne-Marie Thanks Anne-Marie for your very positive review You are right, the question was sort of rhetorical, I probably should have used '!?' During these years I re-sang my part three times, and the last time this year produced vocal track that I was satisfied with, so I'm glad it worked for you. Janne

A fun listen. Really lovely use of Solaria and she blends nicely with you.
A really interesting percussion bed drives the song and an amusing lyric is quite evocative.
Good song.

Thanks B.D.Thomas for your kind feedback You are right about the percussion, I need to study whether there are alternative patterns in the instrument I'm using. Keep on partying as long as you live I have a song with an opposite message in my mind, let's see when I have time to finish the lyrics Janne

As he often does, David said most of what I was thinking. I'll be 76 pretty soon, but still party when I can. Fortunately, I have very few pains and get along pretty good. Nice sound - lively and fun. Great job! Alan
