I have written out a song that has extensive 251s. I put in the chords for the first 2 bars which repeat for most of the song. I copied the 1st 2 bars and then pasted over bars 3 & 4 etc. This all worked OK but the chord sheet shifted leaving large gray spaces instead of leaving the form at 4 bars per line. Please see attached image. Why is this happening and is there a way to fix it? I cannot find one. Thanks as always! (BTW this is not the real full song, just a display of trials at copy and pasting)

You copied the blue part marker of bar 1 to bar 3.

You can fix it by clicking twice on bar 3 to eliminate the part marker, and the bar fragments will reunite.

Going forward, since you can’t avoid copying part markers, find another two bars without part markers to use as your source to copy from.

Thanks for that thought, but that doesn't seem to be the fix. I just redid the exercise and swiped ONLY the bars 1 and 2 and did not include the blue part marker and the behavior still exists. Any other thoughts?

If you copy bar 1 you will get the blue marker. Type the same chords into measures 3 & 4 then use measures 3 & 4 for your copy and pastes.

Had a nice chat with Jerry at PGM. He tells me that when you swipe some bars to copy, EVEN if you do not see the part marker highlighted, it comes with the copied bars. Then when you paste, BIAB assumes you want a new part and thus starts the "new" part on a new line, thus the added gray area.

If you don't want that (my goal) one has to click on the new part marker TWICE (turning it from blue to green to clear) to get the old formatting of 4 bars to a row back.

It turns out that this part marker coming along with highlighted bars 1 and 2 (even though there is no visual indication that you are bringing along the part marker) is only a behavior that involves bar #1.

So you have a choice.

Swipe bars 1 and 2 that you want to repeat and then go through the process of turning off the automatically, but unwanted new part and returning to the default 4 bars per line format

OR

Don't do any copying from bar #1 and avoid this whole automatic make a new part assumption that BIAB makes.

I have submitted a suggestion the PGM that they make this copy/paste function show whether the part marker has been selected so that the user has a choice of what he/she is actually copying. This will bring the program into alignment with standard copy and paste functionality that all computers use.

MarioD, Our posts crossed, but YES! that is the solution. A bit odd I think but finally understand that bar #1 is special and you cannot turn off that automatic behavior. Thanks you so much for your reply!

Options/Preferences/Display will open the Display Options dialogue box.
About 1/4 way up from the bottom there is a check box option "New Line for every section"

Hope this helps

I like the fact the grey appears; it alerts me if I make a mistaken part marker.

BackingTrack, go back and re-read my answer. Glad you’ve got it now.
