Backstory:As Winter approaches my household is stocked and prepared. And I’ve been reflecting on how many of us are blessed with more than we need and so I try to thank God for my daily and yearly provisions. I’ve included 8 voices which might be too many, constructive criticisms welcome. Thanks for listening if you do. Hi there Bass Thumper,
You made a descent nice song with nice instruments in it! Haven't heard of a Korg, but perhaps it's because we call it something else in the Netherlands (I hope) Didn't hear (too) many voices.
But I have some questions; was it deliberately that you had the band that soft? And the other question is about the theme: 'prepared for the season'. A nice title by the way, but when the song continues I didn't get a feeling about any season at all. As I said at the start of my post, it's a nice decent song, but it doesn't have much excitement along the way. Maybe that was just what you were aiming for, but maybe you could introduce a bridge/break in it to get some more surprise in it.
Having said that, that is what I would do when making a song, but you don't have to listen to it, of course...
Hans

BT,
Nice Bass! Punchy, and not "boom-y". Drums sound good, too.
The rest of the instruments seem a bit low (volume-wise). The flute sounds good.

Hans Hey Hans, your evaluation is much appreciated. Thanks for the kind words. Korg is the name of a musical instrument manufacturer similar to Yamaha or Casio. I believe they were founded in the 1960's. Here is their website: https://www.korg.com/us/Regarding the soft band, no, that was not intentional and I didn't notice that. When I play back that song on SoundCloud I get descent volume. Keep in mind my mixing skills are poor at best. Having said that, 1) I understand from a recent thread here that SoundCloud automatically adjusts/processes the audio file so that sufficient volume is reached upon playback. Maybe that is not working in all cases? 2) My process in Studio One prior to exporting the final Mixdown is to adjust the main volume slider so that I get just a tad of "clipping", maybe 0.5 to 1 dB. On past uploaded songs I have found that this has worked and has caused no complaints. This time however, I forgot to do that, so I will make that change and re-upload. Regarding titles for instrumentals, I struggle all the time with this. Don't read too much into it. I was simply thinking about how thankful I am for being able to be prepared for the coming Winter when I built this song. I don't necessarily hear anything in this regarding Winter preparation either. Take for example, this instrumental by the Allman Brothers: https://duckduckgo.com/?q=Jessica+Allman+brothers&t=h_&iax=videos&ia=videos&iai=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DNRE3Bv1goyI Why title this Jessica? Why not Melinda, or Lucy, or Salt on my Potatoes . . . ? Good feedback, thanks.

fj Hey thanks fj, You're the 2nd person to mention low volume. It doesn't sound low on my end but I'll try to fix and re-upload. . . . I re-exported the mixdown at -6db, the original was -21dB and yes I do notice a difference. Here's what I learned. There can be at least 4 independent volume settings involved. 1. The main-out in your DAW 2. The volume setting on your digital interface that controls your monitors/headphones( I think that was the culprit here, I had mine set too high) 3. The volume control on your computer (for me a Windows setting) 4. Whatever volume adjustments and leveling SoundCloud does Whew, this mixing stuff is not easy

I listened to both versions. The second one was a major improvement but there is still a big problem with one or two tracks being way too soft. It sounds like an interesting piece, otherwise. I think it's a guitar or two that's the problem, but not sure.

Bass Thumper,
You lived up to your moniker with that intro! It's a great sounding backtrack just waiting for a vocal at some point! Love the vibrato guitar sounding parts! Lots of little interesting things happening!
Take care, Torrey

Nice sound! I didn't listen too critically to the mix, but it doesn't come as a surprise that you're a bass player. For the rock instruments (bass, drum, guitars) it sounds fine. But the lead instruments are bit in the background. Nice sound anyway.

That's cool, Steve. Your know I like your bass sound and technique, and the Korg voices are cool. I particularly like the flute and organ. I like the flow of the tune.

Take care, Torrey Wow Torrey, thanks a bunch. Vocals? Yeah, I wish I could sing, if I could I would but I do think I could write lyrics (maybe).

I listened to the -6 DB song. Nothing wrong with the volume as far as that one's concerned. Really cool music, the flute is nice.

Many thanks Anne-Marie. Yeah, I like the flute as well, Korg calls it "Flute Vibrato" and it does have a measure of vibrato to it.
When I think about it, it's amazing how realistic digital recreations of actual instruments are these days.

You are really improving on that bass - sounds great
Super groove - nice mix
IMHO the flute should be featured more in this as I think you need more melody in this one. But that is only my opinion.
Sounds great

Bass Thumper, I listened to-6 DB song. Fun jam. Good bass playing. No issues with levels to my ears. Critical... ok It does sound a bit like a sketch or a practice tune. Which is not a bad thing as you have that choice of making it smoother. Learning process never stops Thank you for sharing. Misha.

Cool tune. The bass really lays the bed for the song. Cool jam. Would be fun to loop it and play it for hours. Well done

Greg, Mario, Misha and Scott, Thanks so much for the kind and/or constructive comments. I'm pondering to do a re-mix/re-do of this one as I am seeing that I can improve upon it. As Misha states, the learning process never stops. For what it's worth, I'm finding: BiaB + my Bass + my Korg + Studio One = Fun + Growth Thanks again for listening and bigger thanks for commenting.

Nice track...like Scott said...I bet the guitar players around here could have a great time jamming to it...love the bass and the clean sound of the drum track...mix is subjective and mostly to how you feel about it...good job!
