Previously, whenever I opened a BIAB .sgu file with Real Band, Real Band would generate Audio Tracks for the all of the Real Tracks in the .sgu file.

But now Real Band generates mostly MIDI Tracks.

In the .sgu file I'm opening with RB, there is no MIDI that I know of, only RT's.

I'm attaching some screen captures, I think. Maybe someone is familiar with this behavior. Perhaps it's just a setting....

depends on the BIAB file - you obviously get a fair few audio tracks but looks like a load of midi tracks too............how many instruments/tracks does the BIAB file have?

are all the midi tracks superfluous or did you really have loads of utility tracks?

Here's the tracks in the BiaB SGU. I should have included them originally. Thanks.

Btw, RB did the same thing on my last BiaB project - no MIDI in that .sgu either, unless there's something hidden.

I'm not well versed in MIDI nor the workings of BiaB and RB. I can do what I need to, which is to let the software generate audio/wav files for import into another DAW.

You are using Utility Tracks, and I don't think RB fully supports those yet, and to be honest will likely always be behind BiaB on these.

Reason: they are developed for BiaB (RB doesn't need them as it already has extra tracks to generate on)
So RB will likely always be behind in the use of Utility Tracks

If it were me, I'd adjust my workflow (as many here have) and simply move to RB sooner.

Instead of generating Utility tracks in BiaB, get the basic SGU file down in BiaB and then generate additional tracks in RB, instead of using Utility Tracks.
This is only applicable if you know you are going to eventually move to RB, but if that is the workflow, just switch to RB before turning to Utility Tracks in BiaB.
Then all your additional tracks will remain as intended.
Just a suggestion from a long time user.

FWIW, I get the basic stuff down in Biab when I use it (Tempo, Chords, Style, etc.), then move to RB as soon as I can where I can refine and generate additional tracks without this snafu.

I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome

Oh. I see. Thank you so much!! I never would have figured that out:)

I hadn't done much with BiaB or RB for quite a while and not since Utility Tracks were introduced. Usually I work as you describe, but since the Utility Tracks were there, I was using them to audition more RT's and variations. I didn't know RB wasn't capable of handling them.

That's what happened on my last project too then.

Thanks again for the help.

Olemon

hope this helps a tad re utility traks/biab/rb.

theres nothing to stop you in biab on a utility trak doing the following after trak generation.
( i was doing this yesterday in checking out my new pc)

1..drag genned util trak to top left corner of biab n' do trak drop to a selected folder n' then import from said folder into rb…...OR
2..dragging straight onto a free rb trak the genned biab util trak…
ie DIRECT biab>>>rb.

fyi in fact if you wished you could do genned util traks to your hearts content in biab ...(eg say you want to genn a bunch of test bed traks) and drag or import them into realband.

think of biab and rb as 2 recording studios in concept (like we used to do ie...one studio we laid down beds n' guide traks and second studio leads and final vocs etc etc.)

THUS ..think of biab as studio 1 laying down guide and bed traks n' trying out arrangements n' various song ideas...and realband rb as your studio 2 for doing finals and leads etc etc.
now obviously this is but one of many methods of workflow. see what i mean ??

cos rb has 48 traks you can use.
its all a matter of useing the strengths of each 'studio'.

finally for direct biab//rb interraction remember you can put their respective screen displays by side of each other on pc screen n' drag from biab to rb the traks you want.

think of this 'concept'..
studio 1 in realband rb is first 24 traks for guides and bed traks from biab, and studio 2 rb next 24 traks is for final traks and leads (ie the 'pretty traks' lol.)

et 'VOILA' you have two 24 trak recording studios in real band. what 'luxury' !! lol. and rb is free.
(remember also rb itself can genn midi n' audio traks
for total flexibility. )

just another work method.
between biab and rb there are lots of alternate synergies and work methods that i havent seen in any other music production software on the market due to how both can work together realising a powerull solution.
to put things into 'context'...years back owning 2 x 24 trak srudios was a pipe dream cos cost hundreds and hundreds of thousands of dollars.

hth/happiness.

Thanks for all of that. I'm sure there are a few extra steps in my workflow when it comes to generating, exporting, and importing Real Tracks, and I don't know BiaB or RB very well beyond the basics, so it's helpful to know how other people approach those tasks.
