A fine write with the two brief life stories leading nicely to that rising chorus... and all, of course, in an excellent arrangement and mix.

Man, you really pulled out all the stops utilizing all those realtracks, and seamlessly I might add! You and your co-writer Bill, really put together a gem here! The mix has allowed such a tender sound that really lets the pianos shine! Love the use of that fiddle flowing throughout the tune! It sure is a heart tugger of a tune, especially those little walk-up parts in the chorus! The bridge section is awesome also! Enjoyed it all the way!

Floyd, please pass my kudos to Bill. That first verse is especially cool. Man, I envisioned this little kid practicing his letters, and i stopped the music, stood up and saluted the change from the expected "granddad" to "grandson." Brilliant.
Your vocals are so so good. You are the storyteller many would pay to hear. Did I misunderstand your word "long" in the post. Apology, in all its length, is accepted, if not. hehe Writing a song from lyrics? That, in my experience, is a much more difficult process, but WOW you did your usual you and the result is awesome.

Hi, floyd jane. I see people commenting on the arrangement, but while it's very good, it's the vocal that's front and center that gets my attention. Which, in my book, is exactly how things should be - especially when the vocal is yours!  I thought first verse - with the surprise being that "Johnnie" was actually a grandparent - was a nice twist. Besides, the name mirrors with "Jennie" in the second verse.  The chorus has a nice upward movement. As with your arrangements, smooth and polished with your trademark vocal and harmonies. Very strong songwriting, two different angles to small victories, tiny steps or baby steps are good advice for struggles of life. Strong chorus really brings the story alive. And strong vocals give the final emotional lift.

Jazz, Funk & World (Sets 468-475):
Our new jazz, funk & blues RealTracks include a groovin’ collection of RealTracks and RealDrums! These include more requested “soul jazz” RealTracks featuring artists Neil Swainson (bass), Charles Treadway (organ), Brent Mason (guitar), and Wes Little (drums). There are new “smooth jazz” styles (4), which include a RealTracks first: muted trumpet, as well as slick new smooth jazz brushes options for drums. Blues lovers will be thrilled—there are more “classic acoustic blues” styles, including guitar (5), bass (4), and drums (10) with blues master Colin Linden, featuring understated and tasty background acoustic soloing, plus brushes drums and acoustic bass. We’ve added funky country guitar (5) with PG favorite Brent Mason, along with classic pedal steel styles (5) featuring steel great Doug Jernigan. There are more country songwriter styles (8) that provide intimate, rootsy foundations for storytelling and modern Americana writing.
