Not too long at all and the pianos did not get in the way.
Great job!

Floyd,
Your vocal on this is very powerful- the emotion comes through clearly and matches those moving lyrics.
A fine write with the two brief life stories leading nicely to that rising chorus... and all, of course, in an excellent arrangement and mix.
A top shelf partnership with a talented writer I don`t think I`ve heard before.

It sure is a heart tugger of a tune, especially those little walk-up parts in the chorus! The bridge section is awesome also! Enjoyed it all the way!

Floyd, please pass my kudos to Bill. That first verse is especially cool. Man, I envisioned this little kid practicing his letters, and i stopped the music, stood up and saluted the change from the expected "granddad" to "grandson." Brilliant.

Your vocals are so so good. You are the storyteller many would pay to hear. Did I misunderstand your word "long" in the post. Apology, in all its length, is accepted, if not. hehe Writing a song from lyrics? That, in my experience, is a much more difficult process, but WOW you did your usual you and the result is awesome.

Enjoy whatever happens!

Powerful song. A hit in my book.

I like where you took us with the melody in the verse, which let to the satisfying resolution in the chorus.

Which, in my book, is exactly how things should be - especially when the vocal is yours! laugh

I thought first verse - with the surprise being that "Johnnie" was actually a grandparent - was a nice twist. Besides, the name mirrors with "Jennie" in the second verse. wink

The chorus has a nice upward movement.

As with your arrangements, smooth and polished with your trademark vocal and harmonies.

I enjoyed the listen!

Thanks, David....

Tip of the hat to Bill for the great storyline, I love the idea of small victories.

Yeah!

Sounds great as your songs always do, didn't seem long to me.

Well, that certainly tugged at our hearts!

Your vocals, beautiful melody and band are a perfect match for Bill’s lyric.

The arrangement and mix are stellar.

Again, your soulful vocals paint the picture so well and make us truly feel the poignancy in these stories.

Great collab!

Floyd you have the knack of selecting the perfect banding tracks for your songs.

The lyrics are top notch; you both did a fantastic job on them.

As usual your vocal and mix were outstanding.

Loved both verses!

Very strong songwriting, two different angles to small victories, tiny steps or baby steps are good advice for struggles of life. Strong chorus really brings the story alive. And strong vocals give the final emotional lift.

I read the lyrics were written in 2013, or is the song from that year too? I mean, did you play it then as well?

And who cares about the length of this song? I got fixated by the story, the song and the melody, and suddenly it ended...

Hans

Thanks, Hans. Yes, this one is from 2013....

First I thought, why so many different pianos ???
But you always used them perfectly and produced such a fantastic background track.
The song sounds really great
I think a song should always be as long as it needs to be ;-)
Many greetings

Floyd - That song is the picture of perfection. Loved the lyrics, the melody, the production, the vocal - everything is over-the-top good. Man what a mix. The vocal stands out so clearly, making the story that much more powerful. Top notch and top shelf all the way Floyd - you're an inspiration.
