Hey Deej,

Thanks for such a good and thoughtful review. Truthfully, I'm starting to have second thoughts about having sung this myself. I have some regret, wish I'd hired somebody with the right voice. My niece told me the vocal is too deep and she can't understand the words. I think she's probably right, and it's paramount to me that the words be clear. Well, we'll see.

Beautiful song, good lyrics.
You have the right voice for this kind of song.
Nice backing vocals too.

Thanks guys, I have zero confidence in my voice so it's good to hear that at least it fit this song.

This is so good, Bob. I like what Floyd said about the "gritty, 5-minute-movie lyric." Yes, B&W for sure. I like your use of BiaB. You always put together the best, most appropriate band for your songs. Your lyrics are the star of the show. Man, when I read that verse about 1959 (the year the music died), I was all set to mildly chastise you about the relativity of finances, and was actually going o figure out what po' fo'k in '59 could afford to drink. Ray, my man, saved the day. I also repeat what Dan says about "the length of a song if the story grabs you." Yep.

Enjoy whatever happens!

Usually, I listen to a song several times and sometimes after that, I do something else, like eat or brush my teeth and if the song still keeps playing in my mind, then it surely is memorable. And your song passed the test, a classic folk melody that supports the very sad story full of strong imagery.

Your vocal and the backing singer are perfect fit for the song, somebody might sing this better but not with the same sentiment. Good band and arrangement, but some variation like drum breaks or held chords in verses wouldn't hurt to make the 5 minute even more interesting.

Hello!

Excellent! A song should be as long as it takes to tell the story. Some powerful words in the lyric. And the musical backing expounds on the tragedy. I think this is my favorite of your I've heard in a very long time. Keep up the good work ... uh, excellent work.

Best to ya!

Alan

Only as this track was winding down, I noticed the time stamp. TBH it kinda needed another minute to loop around and recap. Well done. Killer tale of raw humanity with those lyrics. Your baritone fit it like a good pair of worn boots. Nice choices on instrumentation. Memorable track dude

Thanks, Janne, I also often need several listens to others' songs. I've never thought of doing something else and coming back for another listen, I'll have to give that a try. I'm retired now and can do that. Thanks again for your very positive review.

You've captured a really special vibe with this one!!! And I think your vocal is right on the money in terms of feel!!! Fiddle solo was perfect!! Harmonies were the right mood but a little pitchy. I think an organ would fit this really well too. LOVED IT!!! Take care. Greg

TuneMonger,

It's the artist/writer's prerogative to decide what length the song should be. I really like this one! Also, like the instrument choices! That fiddle solo fits perfectly in this! Enjoyed it!

Thanks, Torrey
