Here are the results Ive gotten with the style picker since installing 2023:
1) the first time I tried to rebuild the styles list I got the message "NO STYLES FOUND" even though the path it used was correct and I could confirm with windows explorer that the F:/BB/STYLES directory was full of styles.
2) After receiving this message, the styles that had previously appeared in my style picker vanished and I was left with an unpopulated list
3) The next time I opened BIAB the styles list was populated again, and it worked OK, except that as I changed list filters I kept getting fewer and fewer styles presented. After removing all filters the list showed that I have 617 styles total. (I bought the megapak which should have all the styles)
4) after rebuilding multiple times (fast and slow rebuilds) and continuing to have 617 reported as my number of styles, I rebooted
5) upon rebooting and reloading BIAB then rebuilding the style list, BIAB reported 7159 styles found. So I wrote a batch file to count the number of styles in the folder: DIR *.STY > STYLES.TXT at the bottom of styles.txt it said there were 7495 STY files in the directory. So that tells me 336 STY files in my directory are not being picked up by the rebuild.
5) also, when demoing the style to the chords on my chord sheet, after a few regens, it stops playing anything, even though I've selected a style then clicked the button for playing that style with the chords in my chord sheet.
Any thoughts on this? ------------------------

Pat, I wonder if this tallies up with help > What Add-ons do I have? It shows what BiaB thinks are installed / missing.
(Note that there is a current bug in the display of the number of Xtra Styles avilable, which shows 94% instead of 100%)

Regarding showing 7,159 instead of 7,495. Those are likely third party styles that have been added and you haven’t done a slow rebuild. If you have, perhaps you can find the name of a style that isn’t showing up.

Thanks for taking time to respond Dr Gannon! There are no 3rd party styles. There was no prior installation when I installed 2023, so the only styles in that directory are put there by the 2023 installation.
When rebuilding I chose both fast and slow rebuilds multiple times.
I'm not terribly concerned about the 334 styles that don't show up in my style picker... I mostly mention this for trouble shooting purposes. Erratic results in a programmed algorithm suggest that there is an assignable cause. Programmed algorithms tend to yield the same results every time... and that ain't happening here.
It could also be an error in the windows algorithm that reports how many files it sorts into my text file, but its math works out... every time. I edited the batch file to find *.*, *.STY and *.STX, here are the results:
*.* found 10,439 files (minus 3 text files my batch file generated) = 10,436 installed files *.STY found 7495 files *.STX found 2941 files
Is there a way to export the titles of styles in the style picker to a text file? 7,000 plus files = too many to compare manually, but if I had the stylemaker list as a text file I could use software to find the difference between what the rebuild algorithm finds and what windows explorer finds.
I'd even be willing to burn a day of my life to compare my text file (sorted alphabetically) with the style picker list (sorted by name)... but the sort order is different. Style picker has never really sorted style names the same way windows does.
If I had the stylepicker output in text format, I could put both lists in a spreadsheet and use the same sorting algorithm to line them up... after which it would be easy to find the 334 files that aren't being found, and you could use that list to look for common denominators.
Is there a way to export the titles of styles in the style picker to a text file?
Yes, there is... take this to Excel.
cool! Thanks! update: well dang... I don't have Excel, and OpenOffice won't open a tab delimited text file as a spreadsheet. Bummer.
In the FWIW department: I still have BIAB 2022 installed on another computer, so I performed the same test there and got these results:
7262 = .sty files found in the styles directory by windows 6926 = styles found by the rebuild algorithm ----------------------------------------------- 336 = same difference I see in my analysis of 2023 installation...
and OpenOffice won't open a tab delimited text file as a spreadsheet.
Surprising, but perhaps try importing it or copy-and-pasting it instead?
