OK - so the 2021 "features" were wrong! You cannot import the tempo map from a midi file, no matter what way you do it.
Since BIAB has bar settings to specify tempo changes it should be easy to read this from the midi file and put it in. That seems an easier job than interpreting the chords (which it already does) so I think they should fix this.
In addition, importing a midi file should also write into the bar settings any meter changes (4/4 to 2/4, etc) since that information is also in the midi file and easily recognized and accommodated by BIAB bar settings.
