Well, I listened to that Strat rhythm and lead tracks soloed side by side and did not hear anything that was not what I had intended.

That Knopfler style uses a "raking" style at times which means you have a cascade or flurry of notes when you rake downwards with one finger on a chord and then pick some descending or ascending notes at the bottom a millisecond later.

(You will hear this technique the most in the opening 14 seconds. Listen carefully and you will hear the Dm at the 10th fret being raked, with cascading notes in that scale tripping over the chiming held notes of the chord just played.)

Not all notes will be in the pocket from a traditional standpoint, but they are not supposed to be. It's an eccentric groove. Anyway, for better or worse, it sounds like what I wanted to do.
