Can anyone advise? Sale price is pretty attractive, but anyone here with experience on what true value the membership provides? Inquiring minds want to know! grin

For example: "Daily Updates". Is that program updates? 4.0.0 has been out for several weeks with no updates. Does membership get you "daily program updates?"

Short answer: I don't know.

Longer comments:

Anyone can see the beta builds of Musescore, so I don't think that's the benefit. I believe there is a package they sell with lessons and tutorials. There is also the site from which you can download scores, and I have found this valuable enough that I subscribe.

But I'll follow this thread to see what someone who does buy this has to say.

Dan, I direct an 11-piece chamber orchestra playing classical, pop and jazz. We have an unusual make-up of instruments so I do special orchestration for all our music. I get quite a lot of material from MuseScore’s collection. Like any other collection, the quality varies. Most is good, some is amazing, some should not have been allowed.

I wonder how wide a variety the music score catalog provides and if you can then export to MIDI for use in other DAWs

You can export almost all the scores as MIDI or Music XML, or PDF.

A few scores, done by pros, are demonstration files and are not downloadable, but those are rare.

You can't download or play[Correction, you can play the sheet music] without membership, but you should be able to perruse the offerings by going here: https://musescore.com/sheetmusic. Maybe you need a free login to get in. There are literally hundreds of thousands of scores avialable.

I have essentially made up my mind that I will join (four days remaining). At the least the potential inspiration is worth the price of admission. But when I work on a project, I like to capture any and all the musical elements available to me. So I will generally pop for the price of the sheet music a couple times a year. Likewise, if I construct a new piece, I like to notate the arrangement the best I can along with the performance.

I still would like to hear from more members...

You can play / perform scores; I can't (I can just read them, and arrange them for others). The worst way for me to 'get' music is by sheet music. Even though I have several top-notch programs that scan sheet music, the results have way too many errors. I use Music XML exclusively now.

Sorry, I've been a paid member for quite awhile and do not remember what you can or cannot get if you aren't.

Here is a quick demo of what is available.

I guarentee you that this contains information I can learn from and inspiration I can gather from having this resource available to me.

I've been a Pro member for a few years and get quite a lot from there, though that's probably mostly jazz standards. I am now wondering whether to upgrade one of the higher membership levels. Official licensed score would be useful. I think some of the lessons may also be, though I'm already subscribed to Julian Bradley's courses.

The only advantage I really use is being able to transpose my musescore files directly in the tablet, which can be useful in some gigs to me.

Other than that, my main reason to use a pro account is to support the project.

Just to close the thread, I assume the membership sale is now over. I can't be sure since when I go to musescore.com I am greeted by my own new Dashboard as a Pro+ Member, so I don't see the announcement any more. laugh

The quantity of avialable scores was the tipping point (combined with price). Along with the fact that you can download the midi, the musescore file, the pdf file, the html file, the .wav file or you can just play any of the scores directly on the site and you can set your own VSTi for sounds.

The Pirates of the Caribbean score I showed as an example is beyond inspiration for me. I placed Pianoteq 7 to cover the piano and I have my NI Taylor Davis herself to play the violin (which btw there is a score version that was written by/for her!).

There is also a ton of music tutorials videos, but they all have additional cost.

I’ve been using the site for over two years as a source of music for my group.
