I can't say that I've upgraded EVERY year since my first BIAB purchase on a 3-1/2" floppy many years ago, but enough to know I've "invested" a grand or two in the program.

For those not aware, many of us had 3 wishes for program features:
- more than 4 chords per bar (fixed in 2022 with "microchords")
- support for more time signatures (e.g. 6/8, 5/4 etc.)
- support for more than 255 bars in a song

I've read through the 2023 "new features" list and watched the videos, some multiple times, and, although there's lots of "whiz bang", really nothing that makes me want to update.

All of this is just preamble for the reason of this post, and why I put it in the "Off Topic" section. I'll get to that shortly ...

... to carry on, and regarding the not-directly-supported-time-signature of 6/8

In going through Christmas Carols this year, and doing a Sing Along in the RV park here, we ran across "O Holy Night". I was using my usual display format of just words and chords. When we came to the end of every verse, there seemed to be some discrepancy on how it should be sung and (my left-brained-anal-retentive self) vowed to get to the bottom of it.

As you might expect, I found several variations on words, chords and time signatures, although the latter was mostly 6/8. In trying to get the words to fit into that pattern, I had surmised that it would help if I put it into BIAB to keep the timing consistent, and then add the lyrics to fit.

Of course the first thing to pop up was no "real" 6/8 time signature, although there are several styles with workarounds, non of which I liked, but I settled for using GOODNITE.sty, setting the bar resolution to 2 beats per bar, and the tempo to 60. That gave me what I wanted to HEAR and see in the grid. I was not concerned about the notation.

As the song is in the public domain, I can share what I have, if I knew how to post the .sgu file here. I'll look that up.

Apparently, I can't add a .sgu nor .mgu file to a post.

You need to use an external host and then provide a download link. I use Google Drive which is free with your Google account. Well worth checking out.

Otherwise, carry on. I am interested in your comments.

Ok, I think I got this right. I believe it's my wife's Google account.

Just to toss my cards on the pile, you can look at this as 3/4, or 6/8, or 4/4 in compound meter, where you'd count it as

1-2-3, 2-2-3, 3-2-3, 4-2-3

or

1 and and 2 and and 3 and and 4 and and.

The way you did it worked fine.

I spent a ton of time on this, good thing I'm retired with nothing better to do. lol

What I found in my research was, the earliest "original" sheet music I could find,
was actually written in 4/4 time. It had 3 verses and the chorus for each was the same. Somewhere along the line it got changed to 6/8 (some show 12/8) time,
and 3 different choruses.

Many different versions by many different artists.
Sometimes you have to just pick one and make it work.

My wife asked if I had seen the dog bowl. I told her I didn't even know he could.

With Micro Chords you can now have up to 16 or 12 changes per bar.
So you should be able to have 12/8 or 6/8 in 1 bar.
