I'm trying to create a simple, single note mandolin practice pattern using the fretboard window and the BiaB notation window. After entering a note on the fretboard, is there anyway to select the next quarter or eighth note position by a hot-key, vs. moving the mouse to the note location. Would save me some time. smile

Thanks and happy new year (when it gets here),
Ralph

Try space or arrow right

I think that neither of these will fully achieve the intended requirement. Yes, Arrow right / left will move to the next / last beat position, but the mouse is still required to insert a note position.

The Space bar will start/stop playing the song.

I had already tried several methods, (including checking Help for a solution), but found none.

Incidentally, a chord can be entered at the major beat position this way e.g. by typing Eb etc, but not a specific note.

Others may hopefully know more.

Thanks for the input. Guess I'll have to wear out my mouse to go to the next note. smile

You did this correctly, first asking if it can be done. Several of us believe the answer is No, so the next step is to suggest you make a request in the Wishlist Forum.

Do consider taking this to the wishlist forum. It would certainly get my vote.

Perhaps a special key would insert the note in a given position on the stave e.g. <Ctrl>Insert, and <Ctrl>up/down arrow keys could shift it to the desired pitch position?

OK, I'll add it to the Wishlist. But here's what I did that helped me a lot.
----------------------------------------

Played around with various keys and found something helpful.

1) The right and let arrow keys will move to the next 1/16 note position. I have a utility that I can program to generate a string of keystrokes from one keystroke. So, I'll program it to send 4 "right arrow characters" to skip to the next quarter note.

2) CTRL right or left arrow will move to the next actual note. So, if I create a special file with the same note at every quarter note (easy with Edit-Copy Special-From/To), I can skip to the next/previous quarter note. Then I can use the fretboard to "correct" the existing note to what I want.

Tried it for several measures, with left hand tapping the utility key to move the "note cursor" to the next quarter note and right hand clicking desired note on fretboard with mouse. Works great!

Do you know about the 'N' key? If you're in editable notation mode you can use the left and right arrow keys to move back and forth, press N to insert a note (or select the current note at that position), and use the up and down arrows to select the pitch. This allows you to enter a melody without needing to use the mouse.

However, if you want to specify the guitar string that the note should be played on, you would need to have the guitar window open and click on the fretboard with your mouse to enter the notes. As long as the current track is set to multi-channel or guitar, that will insert the notes with the correct channel using 11-16 for strings 1-6.

Thanks for the tip on the N key, Andrew. That's very helpful.
