For me there’s no better place in the band than to have one leg in the harmony world and the other in the percussive. Thank you Paul Tutmarc and Leo Fender.

Mellow. Adding melody is always nice, but not necessary.

The strings sort of jump in and don't fit it with the mix - they sound like they're synthetic and coming in from nowhere, instead of being in the same place as the rest of the instruments.

Writing lyrics on top of melody is a whole new level of work - having a synthetic vocalist won't necessarily make it easier to come up with lyrics! It's sort of like writing that "Great American Novel" - just because you've read a lot of books doesn't mean it's easy to write one.

On the other hand, if you want to write lyrics, by all means, go for it! And having a synthetic vocalist can be a lot easier than going through the effort of setting up microphones and recording - especially if your house is half as noisy as mine! laugh

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

David, I noticed this too. The strings (and the vibraphone) are coming from my Korg keyboard and my fingers on that keyboard. You didn't mention the vibraphone, so to you is that "coming in from nowhere" too?

What if the strings were in from the beginning?

Is this an artifact of the volumes used in the mix or do you think it's more structural, or is it simply related to taste? I think this subject came up before and someone called it "a motif".

BT...very nice, mellow tune...great background tune for relaxing with...nicely arranged and the changes you made seem to work...also great to learn how to change the octaves on the instrumentation in BiaB...thanks for posting!

Remix...I listened to this with the bass as the melody.
It's a cool thing...the strings are still a little strident. You could try the old Mellotron trick - roll off the highs and add some soft spring reverb.

Nice instrumental that showcases your playing and the power of BiaB.

Enjoyed it!

"Question: Is there a setting in BiaB to force the piano up an octave to be more bright? As-is it sounds a tad dull/hidden to me."

I know you raised it but I will mention that on EVERY RT or MST piano track we used a preset called Piano Man (with minor adjustments) from Waves CLAUnplugged. It's an amazing fx for $29 especially for use on acoustic guitars and keys.

Another option is one of the many available imager fx that will widen the stereo spectrum. We use the one in Logic Pro and it can hugely enhance the sound of a piano.

Also, it's hard to imagine a DAW for which panning does not work given that panning is an absolutely essential part of mixing and thus any DAW. Surely some users of it could help you.

Hey firesong, glad you liked it and thanks for the positive review.
Glad I'm not the only one learning new things in BiaB, it really is a deep program.

Thanks J&B, glad you enjoyed this. I have my hands full with music software at the moment so I won't be acquiring anything new until I can better use what I have. Regarding panning, yes, it is essential and S1 does have it, but I can't get it to work. I'm thinking it may be the Tascam Interface software that is in the loop but not sure exactly how yet.

Definitely romantic, the sweet chord progression to my taste. Could be a theme song, kind of reminds me of Moonlighting theme. Nice band, that electric guitar is lovely. Good work with the instruments you played yourself, very pleasant bassline. A vocalist would bring extra, sure, I can see a sunny beach, bare feet and white curtains of a house smile But works as an instrumental equally well.

Really pretty song BT. Smooth relaxing listen. There should be a midi track that goes with that piano. I am pretty sure it could be bumped up an octave using the piano roll or any other midi editor. I know Studio One has this build in. Well done and Happy New Year

Bass Thumper,

Love that "Yacht Rock" sound here! So smooth and enjoyable! You did a fine job on this! I don't know about your octave changing question though! Maybe someone else has the answer!

Thanks, T
