Dark Days Are Numbered on SoundCloud
Dark Days Are Numbered on YouTube

Happy New Year forum friends!
This song is about how dark days are numbered both in the beginning and the end. Mine were coming to an end, and his were just beginning,

You all know how much I appreciate Dave's help with my songs, but sometimes I write one he doesn't feel. This one sat for awhile, and occasionally I'd try to find the right BiaB soloist. I bought the new BiaB2023, but didn't have any time to explore it. Finally, after the New Year I started with the partial regeneration when highlighting measures. Great tool. I settled on the 2040 resonator by Rob Ickes. Any and all comments are appreciated.

Key=G , Tempo 120, Length (m:s)=3:04
No intro. 88 bar chorus, from bar 1 to bar 88. Repeat x1 chorus
Style is _BADSIDE.STY (Bad Side Roadhouse Blues)

(I'm pretty sure some of these were muted in the final mix) I know I played bass.

Dark Days Are Numbered (But what's the number?)

Dark days are numbered. He's gonna find out soon enough.
Dark days are numbered. She's gonna bring me back her love.

When she came into my life I knew, but I knew not what to say.
She was gonna be mine. I knew that much. I'd bring her home one day.
And he's gonna find I got the touch. She'll stay. My...

When he said he'd win her heart I knew she would say that she loves me.
He would walk away. Yeah, he would lose. Oh, he would surely see
No matter what he'd say, the one she'll choose is me. My...

I know some of you think I'm scared of losing my girl to him.
Well, he's the one who needs to fear what he has dared.
So let the fight begin.

Your dark days are numbered. Well, you know you've had your fun.
Your dark days are numbered, and tomorrow's number one.
Your dark days are numbered. Yeah, it's time you come undone.
Your dark days are numbered, and tomorrow's number one.
Because she brought me back her love.

Hi Marty.
Very interesting track and I like the title too.
Not so keen on the ride cymbal in the chorus. Maybe too prominent or maybe just me.

Wow, was this a change-up pitch from you! Let the fight begin?! This sounds good, I cranked the volume and it sounded even better. Solo was very good, very natural. I wonder how this would sound in a minor key? Might be worth trying, but maybe too much work. BTW, I couldn't access the YT video, it said it was private. Maybe I can watch it through Facebook.

I tried the vid but was met with a sign in screen for a private video.
A full band sounding good and anchored by a solid, lively bass.
Your vocal is good though it sounds a little bit thin in spots, do you have a high pass on it?
A strong song that pushes forward at a gallop.
Well done Marty - the solo works a treat.

Cheers

Thanks, everyone. I fixed the video link.

Thanks, Vic. I can't say I disagree with you. The drums are usually the hardest for me to get right.

HAHA, TuneMonger Bob. You're right, I'm not a fighter (and too old to be much of a lover either). Dave & I were just talking about how odd it is that we spend so much more time on the so-so songs, and the good ones come much easier. I like your idea of minor, but 'the juice ain't worth the squeeze."

Thank you, Mario. The video link is fixed.

Marty,

Fun video! They get better with each new one...

Good vocal - lots of energy and emotion...

Nice to hear the dobro getting its due. Solo is nice...

Gotta say I hate that opening cymbal sound (you likely knew that...)
Mix is excellent (other than that cymbal, of course smile )

VERY Catchy!!! It's stuck in my head

Marty...I would say that you really tapped into BiaB in a terrific way...that solo fit the song so well...though it does seem strange not to hear Dave on one of your cuts...love the song and the track...great to hear an encouraging word...in mid-winter it's great to know that our "dark days are numbered"...thanks man!

Marty's back! Way to go Marty, this one is really cool. I absolutely loved your use of that dobro. I kind of miss Daves' playing, but the guitars you chose sounded very good. Great mix, and just an overall fun song.

Marty, This is a fun tune with an equally fun video. Your bass sounds great as usual. The chorus is catchy as hell and you sang it perfectly. Well done all around, Tom

Hey Marty, the video is great and the lyrics that wove a story involving you, him and her is very clever.
I also liked how you stutter-stepped the chorus and went to a bridge instead, nicely done.

For me there’s no better place in the band than to have one leg in the harmony world and the other in the percussive. Thank you Paul Tutmarc and Leo Fender.

Cool and funny song, I especially like the catchy chorus, which has been stuck in my head for a while now. Arrgh...

The drums are a bit too hectic in places, but otherwise it's well arranged and well mixed.

Oh, and the lyrics above are incomplete, just before the bridge there's a 'My dark ... what? I get it...' missing.
I mean, that's the best part of the lyrics grin

Wow! Very positively sung, and I didn't know you had such a wide register in your voice - you go up and down the scale effortlessly! Bravo - I ended up with a wide grin on my face at the end, and that's, I suspect, what you're aiming for in the listener! :-)

This song was playing in my head today while walking outdoors, so it really is super catchy. I can almost imagine a punk rock version and a Caribbean style version of this, thus it is a very good song that works in many genre smile Funny lyrics, good band - especially the bassist, and pleasant vocals.

Marty,
After the opening where the cymbal put me on edge, this settles into a good groove; your vocal has great character ( you sound feisty enough to go toe-to-toe with the rival!), though I wished it a bit more upfront.
Backing is fine, resonator just right...and that little intentional hiccup going into the bridge was fun.
Going back to checkout the video.
