Background:
I’m not sure what to think of this song other than another step on my journey of experimentation and growth. Two things were new for me in composing/arranging this one.
1. I pushed my limits with the 16 step MIDI sequencer in Studio One and developed a rhythm pattern involving congas and hand claps that are in and out for the duration of the song.
2. This is the first time I played my keyboard (organ voice) for the entire length of the song. It’s muted during certain phrases but it was played for the entire length of the song, much like I always do on my bass.

As for the name, I was bringing in firewood last week with pieces of this song rambling around in my head and I noticed that the cold was refreshing and crisp with not a black fly, mosquito or any other biting insect in sight smile , hence the name Enjoy the Cold.

Not sure if anyone can relate but a painter on PBS, Bob Ross used to say "Nothing wrong with happy accidents". He died back in the 90s, but the more I try to write songs the more I find that happy accidents are better than what I had planned.

The song pleasantly moves along. I enjoyed the song!

As for the cold... well, I stepped out long enough to get my hair wet from the rain, and I'm back inside enjoying the warmth. laugh

The bass entry is COOOOL.
Programmed handclaps are fine but I've found that blending them with some real ones gives a better vibe - improving on the machine or human ones alone. On my latest I used two tracks from a drum machine and three tracks of me clapping into the mic..add a little top end roll off to the machine ones and the slight variations in timing as well as tone make them much more expressive. Mind you, hand clapping is hard work.

Super bass intro!
Nice B3 and percussion additions.

Nice use of real tracks. Good bass and keyboards. Way to embrace the happy accidents. I have been doing that same thing in music for as long as I can remember. I liked my listen,Tom

I like your song, especially the piano together with the bass works great, and the vintage organ gives it a nice feel.
The congas are not for me, sorry. They don't fit somehow.
But that's just my opinion...

I like the way you build the intensity of the song, it really starts cooking once you bring the bass and flute into the mix.

Well done, enjoyed!

Oh, yeah, cold is one of the things I enjoy, and must admit I hate it. This tune I thoroughly enjoy and I love it. Dave is right, it really comes alive when when the bass and flute come in. What a cool entrance you gave the bass in particular. Sounds to me like some of the flute notes are not quite right, but most are perfect with a great feel. I'm really enjoying your musical ride, Steve.

Enjoy whatever happens!

Hey BD, thanks for the review. Yeah I don't know how many vintage organs are out there but I like them. And upon reflection, you have a good point, the congas don't fit as well as I had envisioned.

Hey Marty, thanks for the positive review. And I'm enjoying this ride too. A ride not possible without BiaB and the helpful folk here willing to assist when I call for help. Regarding the flute, I probably forgot to check the "Fix Sour Notes" box. Thanks for pointing that out.

Nice build and your bass is definitely the center piece of the arrangement.

The flute and the rest of the band sit very nicely.

Well done!

J&B

PS: We agree with Ray on the claps. Throw in some of your own along with some samples ... easy to do - we've created a library of them for layering. Dunno if studio one has the feature but with Logic you can toss a couple of handclaps on a track and set them to sync to the drums. Voila.

I like the way you kept things moving smoothly with the different instrumentation parts. Bass line sound good. After years and years of Michigan cold (and giant mosquitoes and pesky deer flies), I am happy to be in warmer Virginia smile

There's a lot to like in this. Piano is the star, but other tracks are also contributing nicely. I have had a lot of trouble with the bossa nova flutes as well, maybe BIAB should fix them or delete them. Good work overall.

Hello Bass Thumper,

An interesting song, starting with the congas and the handclaps (on midi).
I think you must have learned a lot from pushing your limits because it worked real nice.
Interesting is the suggestio from Ray with the claps. I might try that too!

The song is very nice, the band played well, but I missed a little exitement/variation during the song.
Maybe a small break, only percussion, followed by a transposition, or something like that.
But beside that remark i liked what I heard, made me swing a bit on my chair (you don't want to see that...)

Have a very nice day,
Hans
