Interesting... I notice something in common between Bob and Steve. They are both from West Virginia. Bob, did Steve audition in one of your bands?  The first thing I thought of when I saw the video a friend showed over the weekend of Steve was Rodney Dangerfield's joke during "Rappin' Rodney" where the music stops except the drummer. And Rodney responds, "Look at this. The drummer's carrying the melody!" Little did he know then that there would come a day... I loved their schtick. I especially liked the synchronous interacation between the "Lead Vocalist" and drummer during Wipe Out. Makes me think, the "Lead Vocalist" may have been their first drummer until Steve came along. As a guitarist, I would love to play with a guy like Steve. Though I highly respect any drummer who can play solid just using their wrists, I cannot take away the fact that if I closed my eyes and heard Steve it would be as solid as any of those wrist players. Bob, I don't know your experience as a musician and your interaction with other players in a band must have been. Your opinions about drummers and their musicianship can also be applied to other facets of instruments as well. As a guitarist I know plenty of hams out there that should have not gotten anywhere as far as they did. The point is if you do not enjoy showmanship perhaps studio work is best for you. But, people like to see a visual performance as much as they want to hear something played well too. Steve is not a session drummer, not that he could not, but he is a performer. Though your opinion may not be high for performers, I would lump him in with the David Lee Roths, Mick Jaggers, Elton Johns, David Bowies, Queen among others as performers that offered more for the audience than just someone that stands stationary playing their instrument. It boils down to taste.

If you think this is funny, you should see what I do in the recording booth. I let loose and wave myself around in ways that make me look just crazy. Helps me stay on beat and in the groove. Of course I would never do this if I knew anyone was watching.

Bob, Thought this might interest you..........my son started on drums when he was 7 years old....(we brought him up on listening to Buddy Rich, as he seemed to enjoy drums so much)...he was playing drums professionally when he was 11 years. At 12 he also wanted to play Keyboards & Accordion. Now years later, he has been a Scottish Accordion Champion & a 'sight reading' session player on Keyboards, Accordion, Bass AND Drums for several years......(funnily enough we used to tease him when he only played drums....saying "We always hoped he would grow up to be a musician!!!)  **Plays some nice guitar too  .Regards, Joe G.

As I noticed the song tempo was unusually steady for a live rock performance, while the video play I run PGM Metronome Pro and hit Tap Tempo to grab the song BPM ..... and guess what.. tempo is clamped as an anchor to exactly 125 BPM during the whole song! Or the band was feeded by tempo click from wireless earphone or this guy was born with a metronome instead of a heart!!  wow

I'm honestly not sure why people haven't brought up, oh, Gene Krupa, Buddy Rich, Phil Collins, Keith Moon, Peter Criss, John Bonham, Liberty DeVitto, Fred LeBlanc, Brian Rosenworchel.... There have been lots of drummers who take over front and center.

yeah I know Ive come late on this one.But I loved this guy and Bob you really should lighten up.keith Moon was manic but this guy held a tighter beat.He is a showman and and some drummers like him Moon and Tommy Lee will never just bang out a beat like some robot its what makes us human!
