I extend my warmest wishes and deepest hopes for Billy's complete and swift recovery from his eye surgery. May the surgeons' hands be steady, their knowledge vast and their judgement sound. May the operation be a success, and may Billy's vision be restored to its fullest potential. May the recovery process be smooth and without complications, and may Billy be surrounded by love and support from friends and family during this time. Wishing Billy all the best for a successful surgery and a speedy recovery.

Thanks, guys

It is two hours after the surgery, and everything is going fine.

It looks like everything will return to 2020.

Well...I told the Dr. if he did a lousy job and I went blind, I would only sue him for the cost of professional piano lessons...lol

Thanks for all the kind words.

Billy

Of course, both the picture and the text (which I agreed with even if I didn’t write!)

Glad things went well.

The development of a super-intelligent, artificial consciousness that could out-think human beings would require incredibly advanced and complex technological feats, which, today, we are not yet capable of. But with the continued evolution of technology, we may see the singularity on the horizon in our own lifetimes. What an idea!"

This sums up what I think about the singularity issue.

A quote from https://www.makeuseof.com/what-is-the-singularity-and-when-will-we-reach-it/

Billy

EDIT: Well...perhaps not in my lifetime, being an old guy....lol

Also, I can not imagine a response such as this to this question could be considered anything but intelligent. The Ai even understood my misspelling of the word analysis.

My question.
"give a chemical analassis of insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1)

AI responded.

Insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1) is a polypeptide hormone that is structurally similar to insulin. It is composed of 70 amino acids and has a molecular weight of 7649 daltons.

The primary structure of IGF-1 is composed of three domains: an N-terminal domain, a mid-region domain and a C-terminal domain. The N-terminal domain contains the signal peptide that is cleaved during the biosynthesis of the hormone. The mid-region domain is important for the binding of the hormone to its receptors, while the C-terminal domain is responsible for the biological activity of the hormone.

IGF-1 functions primarily as a growth factor, promoting cell proliferation and differentiation, and stimulating the growth of bones and muscles. It also has a regulatory effect on glucose and lipid metabolism.

The synthesis and release of IGF-1 is regulated by growth hormone (GH) and is primarily produced by the liver. It circulates in the bloodstream bound to various binding proteins, and its biological activity is mediated by binding to specific receptors on the surface of target cells.

IGF-1 is also involved in the regulation of muscle protein synthesis, by activating the PI3K/Akt pathway, which helps to promote muscle cell growth and differentiation.

It is important to note that excessive levels of IGF-1 in the body have been associated with an increased risk of certain types of cancer, such as prostate and breast cancer. Therefore, it is important to have adequate levels but not to have high levels of IGF-1. It is recommended to consult with a doctor or health professional to evaluate the levels of IGF-1 in the body."

After reading this thread in several sessions smile I decided to check it out; however, I've gotten nothing but server error messages. One would think with the financial backing from MS they would be in a position to survive increased traffic.

OpenAI’s SoundCloud channel:

Sources:

https://openai.com/blog/musenet/

“We’ve created MuseNet, a deep neural network that can generate 4-minute musical compositions with 10 different instruments, and can combine styles from country to Mozart to the Beatles. MuseNet was not explicitly programmed with our understanding of music, but instead discovered patterns of harmony, rhythm, and style by learning to predict the next token in hundreds of thousands of MIDI files. MuseNet uses the same general-purpose unsupervised technology as GPT-2, a large-scale transformer model trained to predict the next token in a sequence, whether audio or text.”

https://openai.com/blog/jukebox/

“We’re introducing Jukebox, a neural net that generates music, including rudimentary singing, as raw audio in a variety of genres and artist styles. We’re releasing the model weights and code, along with a tool to explore the generated samples.”

That is a pain, though availability for me is generally pretty good. I once tried signing up for email notification but was shortly after able to resume use and never did get any email.

Ten billion is a material amount of money, even for Microsoft. That is an indication of the perceived value of the technology.

To justify that amount of investment Microsoft must hope to stay competitive and recover the investment.

You could say, well the advertisers will pay the bill. It is we the buying public who will actually pay the bill through the additional cost of the products the advertisers sell.

Perhaps things like ChatGPT will be of direct value to us and worth the direct and indirect costs.

For better or worse it will happen anyway. For things, I am more or less forced to pay for anyway, AI looks far more useful than more military guns and bombs. As a disclaimer, I support the military because I don't think there are any logical alternative options currently but our violent nature is costing an insane amount of money.

I’ve been experimenting with AI written lyrics. Here are my first two attempts, both written for FAWM 2023.

https://write.fawm.org/songs/12934#c37833

And

https://write.fawm.org/songs/12380#c35365
What do you think?

I have developed a very simple app called Joanne Cooper's LyricLab.
The app has been released on Android (IOS coming soon).

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=co.za.joannecooper.LyricsLab&pli=1

Unfortunately, I do have to charge for the app as I am charged for API usage. I am starting it off at a once-off price of around $10 (depending on your location) but I don't know how long I can hold it at this price. If you do purchase and then decide the app is not for you, can refund through the app store.

“Starbucks” is not my cup of caramel cappuccino but it does what it sets out to do, lyrically. A pleasant enough listen to accompany my own morning coffee and BIAB reading.

What were the prompts, if I may? And who was the AI?

Pretty cool stuff Joanne. Very much in keeping with the market, you are trying to reach.

There are obvious current limits to AI-generated lyrics. You have a pleasant voice to listen to which is a more important component than the lyrics.

It is unlikely that you are any of us will write "Hotel California" using AI, or that AI will generate a Joe Walsh guitar solo.

It will generate lyrics suitable for amateur musicians with limited musical skill sets. It gives many of us who have not had the advantage of a classical musical education an opportunity to participate based on our limited skill sets. This is very cool stuff!

Keep up the good work and here is wishing you much success.

Billy
