AND if someone has a projection unit to connect to the laptop we could project the Zoom meeting onto a screen. You know, so the hundreds of people can all see it...

Thanks, Matt...good info. I was not aware of the Original Sound function. I have not used zoom for some time to play music and I understand higher definition audio is now built into the software. I have used audiomovers software in the past.

The concept of having other people from the forum participate in the development of a song would be very cool. That opens up a world of possibilities. Think international Herbstock...lol

Guys, we should make an effort to make this Herbstock thing work. Some of us are getting old and will not be able to do all this sort of thing indefinitely.

If anyone from Florida would like to go you can ride with me. Or anywhere more or less on the way. It is a 10 or 11-hour drive from south Florida so some company would be nice. No cost to you involved.

My thoughts exactly, Billy. The drive may sound daunting but when you balance it against how much fun this will be it's worth it. This is just one weekend out of our whole lives. I'll probably head to Pat's house Friday and then drive over to the thing from there on Saturday morning. I don't know if I will bring Chunk this year, though he is so well behaved he wouldn't be a problem. He wasn't last year. But I'll have keyboards, stands, mixers, guitars, amps... so I have to work out the logistics. Have to test pack the car and see if I can do it in the cargo area or not. Maybe I'd rent one U-Haul's little box trailers.

If I can't catch the live stream, I hope it's archived so I can watch and listen to it.

Thankfully, I'll be gigging, sadly I'll be missing it.

Hey Matt, Billy and I did a test Zoom last night. If you don't have original sound turned on, Zoom will cut out instruments completely. It's normally filtered for voice only. I also upgraded my Zoom membership so I won't have that 40 minute restriction.

Steve, very good.

The Zoom setting of Turn On Original sound is a mixed blessing. I'll explain.

The main purpose is to play WAVE or MP3 files on your computer and have them sound good going out over Zoom. Try it. It also has the effect of improving the sensitivity of the computer's microphone if you are NOT playing a song that is in your song library. "Improving" can be good because it picks up musicians playing live. I know this from the church that hires me for tech. It can be bad when the minister shuffles papers, sings, coughs, jostles the podium with the laptop etc.

A better solution to using the laptop microphone is to use an audio interface, like a Focusrite or Presonus on bus power, and use that with your external microphone. Then Turn On Original Sound should work OK for live music.

Hope that helps.

Yup, Billy and I had that same conversation. When I turned it on from my side, Billy just heard the laptop fan noise from internal mic. I'll just use an SM57 other mic pointed away from laptop next time.

Keep in mind that the end game here is to stream the event, so the sound will be coming from whatever kind of stage we have, though a mixer which can be routed to an interface. This is stuff we can talk about when the principles have a Zoom chat to discuss logistics. And hot dogs. We have to have enough hot dogs!!

We relish the opportunity to have your input. Just talk slow so we don't have to ketchup. Once we have the technical side down we can all be mustered out. That's about all the buns I have...

Has anybody seen John Ford lately? I sent him a personal invitation to Herbstock but the PM has not been viewed yet. I would love to meet John.

Hey Rharv, could you clear some messages out of your forum PM box? I've got some stuff to send you if you're still interested in coming to HerbStock.
